Do you know how that video triggered me? I'm an SJW with a cock who identifies as xer/zhem and am sucking a BBC dummy in my safe space right now, but I think the amount of TRIGGER's in that video was more than enough to melt my special snowflake.  :palm:

https://youtu.be/Kay4Jk2DHuE?t=1068

How much triggering and actual physical violence to poor CH1. I've never seen so much hate since the days of my local council banning IDE Master/Slave drives back in the early 90's.

I'd suggest to keep track also of the dates when they have been first spotted as demonetized.

I wonder if all us YouTubers should list all our demonetized videos here, along with tags, to see if we can find a pattern?

Dave, I hate to break it to you but you need to include a cute puppy dog or (even better) a cute cat in every video from now on. That is just the way Youtube works (or sucks) nowadays  8)
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I notice most of those are fairly recent, and are presumably flagged by an automated process. I assume you've hit the "Request Review" button on all of those?

I note the flagging is split into two slightly different categories: "not suitable for all advertisers" and "not suitable for most advertisers". So does the latter not really count as true demonisation? Or is it effectively the same - zero earnings.

The knee surgery ones being marked as "all" doesn't surprise, as they're titled with keywords implying medical procedures, so I guess YouTube doesn't want adverts on potentially gross stuff.

The test render videos I would guess got flagged because they're all identical in content? Probably thinks they're spamming.

Was it Mehdi Sadaghdar saying in his latest rant video that you can put the video unlisted for a day first?
It makes sense, because then you don't lose the views in the early hours.

I wish YT would actually identify WHY they flagged the video and stated it on a page in detail, so at least then we could fix the issues or prevent them from occurring in the first place!

I didn't have any issues with my videos getting demonetised until about 3 weeks ago, but since the every single one has been hit ! I have been uploading them, fixing the demonetised status (asking for manual review usually, but sometimes changing tags fixes it), and once it is monetised I then make it public.

I don't earn much money at all from my channel as it is nowhere near the size of Dave's, but I am sure the hit to the income is pretty hard in Dave's case, as also stated by Dave and others, the first day or two are the most important as that is where most of the money is earned from the video, in my case it costs a couple of $, but when you are talking tens of thousands of views being lost, that is likely to be in the hundreds of $ range.

I wonder if some complaints are coming from familiar IP Addresses in Vietnam?

They probably can't identify why the videos are flagged, because they don't know. They seem to be flagging in an automated way, based on algorithms weighing up various factors. They imply that their deep learning schemes are used for the flagging. Some videos are clearly flagged for very simplistic reasons, like a key word or phrase with a high weighting being used. Most are probably flagged for much more subtle reasons, which would be difficult to pin down and describe in an easy to digest manner.

If they were to provide more information about how things are flagged, it would probably help people to game the system. That is what has happened with every other available piece of information about automated processes in search engines and filters. The present YouTube tagging system seems a testament to how little progress deep learning has really made, its results are that arbitrary. YouTube does, however, have a difficult problem to solve.

And meanwhile as YouTube spends so much effort looking for videos that don’t fit their favorite leftist politically correct agenda, they seem to spend zero effort working on the massive child sex explotation problem on their site that has been there for years.

It’s clear the world needs a viable competitor/alternative to YouTube.

My guess is that YT uses an AI to check the videos. And since AIs develop some kind of personality and nobody really knows how AIs work, YT might have no clue how to fix the rogue AI. There are studies about AIs which became racist for example. The current AI hype worries me.

Classifying the result as arbitrary suggests inconsistent, if the algorithm was applied multiple times. You've already said "because they don't know" so I don't see how both can be true.
Unless they dump a large part of the working set each time a decision to demonitize is made, how would they be able to trace back what lead to that decision? I think its highly unlikely they do take such a snapshot. They might record a few pertinent items of information, but an entire working set seems unlikely.

If I were writing a filtering system, I would log the results that trigger it, in order to analyze how it is performing, I would be very surprised if yt are not logging the triggers.

Think about it, a yt human verification would not be done one watching the entire video, they would look at what triggered and try to verify if it was valid.

If you write code you could relate to this point of view, if not then it may be harder to relate to it.

It’s clear the world needs a viable competitor/alternative to YouTube.

While I have no doubt there are corners of YouTube and the wider Internet that are in need of cleaning up, citing the Daily Heil as a reputable source does not help make a case, it is a newspaper that will happily post shock paedo scare stories about 15 year old girls being abused and on the very next page post semi nude pics of 16 year old girls on the opposite page, ethics ith a county in the south eathst of England as far as they are concerned.

It's a hysterical right wing, racist rag that spent an awful lot of time trying to claim Hitler was a nice guy really and was just a bit misunderstood.

You laugh but Django project had an actual change ( https://code.djangoproject.com/ticket/22667 ) where poor idiots replaced common DB (as in "almost every SQL DB uses it or "master/replica") terminology with "safe" alternative

Why should mentioning porn trigger it? At some point Dave mentions the demonetising issue (afair), and for sure YT doesn't want too much publicity about it ...

I've seen in a few sources that, due to some recent issues with disturbing videos (and the kids thing I linked above), advertisers were pulling from YT. That is probably YT's response to them: overcompensate to recover credibility and then attract back the lost money.

How does removing ads from popular videos randomly regain respect from advertisers?

The apparent impression they are doing a more diligent filter of inappropriate content with a few dead bodies along the way. Keep in mind that the absolute majority of content is still intact.

Not much I would say, but advertisers pulling out are hurting their pockets.

They have not touched fake versions of cartoons (search for Peppa Pig extreme) etc.  Which are unsuitable for children, but come up as the 'next video' when they (binge) watch.   They are are damaging their reputation with both the public and advertisers, but YT appears to be blind to them.
