Microchip - Atmel Collaboration
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:46:45 pm »

In which Dave gives a short tutorial on how to punch holes through your antistatic mat.
Whoa! How the hell did Dave know that Bob is my uncle? Amazing!

Dave, you can use the wires-through-a-hole-in-the-map trick at any April's fool day, as long as you come up with those amazingly convincing faux stories  :-+
I mean, the most elaborate magician tricks would be boring as hell without a good show around it...

Just for a little bit of reference, here are the previous years' pranks.

2010: Dave gets bought by one of the big equipment manufacturers and is only allowed to to review their products. (The oh so famous DS1052E hack video, EEVblog #70 was released just a couple of days before this btw.)

2011: The 555 Easter egg, using Dave's patented wire under mat technology this time as well.

2012: Extech LP100 Laser Test Probes. I'm not sure if this was all Dave's doing or he was running with an actual joke from Extech. I can't find any references to the Extech LP100 that don't quote Dave's video.

Whoa! How the hell did Dave know that Bob is my uncle? Amazing!

Well geez, Dave.  Yuh got me.  It was a late night and after your clip I actually went googly moogly for a PicKit 4.  Urf.
I should never watch your April clips when I'm tired.

Why cant one of these companies just release a new product where there will be a "bug" that is just too hard for them to fix, and the bug causes their device to also have full support for the competing companies products?

That will avoid any major problems as somethings are just too hard to fix and the other companies cant expect them to do the impossible :)
