Here in RO you get 100/100 for less than 10USD, my real speed 88.5/45

(and this includes also unlimited mobile phone plan(inside own network) and TV subscription (100+ channels, many HD)

The best in the world, and also the cheapest!!!

Here northern europe where I live 100/10 is 12€/month in this particular house, 10/10 is included in the rent. I could move away and be stuck with ADSL2+ with whatever speed it's capable of maximum speed is 24/2, but rarely get that over long old copper, most people are happy if they get 12/1. Also this 100/10 is ethernet to basement and fiber from the basement, cable to basement and VDSL2 can be unreliable and have their quirks. Ethernet either works at the speed it's suppose to work or it doesn't and latency is as low as it can be. Believe me latency has actually huge impact after the speeds are fast enough. Typically cable internet and VDSL2 have error correction turned on, which makes the latency to run up through the roof. I rather take 10/10 real ethernet/fiber connection than ADSL2+ 24/2 even if it works at full speed, even if I would upload files maybe once month and never really "need" the upload bandwidth.

At last a Telco worse than Telkom! But they at least offer a speed over 4M, as here to get a 4M line you need to pay $400 per month for the line only, then whatever your ISP charges for the data on top of that. no cable, and if you want faster get ready with the plastic and the lube, because you will need it. Some ISP's have paid for laying fibre to themselves, as it worked out cheaper.

Here at home (D-21635 Jork) in southern of Hamburg (Germany) my parents pay about 35€ per month for 16/1 ADSL2+ connection, which is in reality 13/0.8 with telephone flatrate. I plan to move to Hamburg north of the river Elbe and want to have a 100/20 connection via fiber. Wilhelm Tel offers that in Hamburg, but you need much luck to find a flat with that kind of connection (phone flat not included). The best of all: It only costs about 25€ per month (with router) or about 30€ per month (with router).
Internet connection at work is a dream. My employer has a bunch of symmetrical GBits via the German research network (DFN). The only bottleneck in my building is an old 100MBit Switch two floors above.
I don't want to know how much my employer pays for that.

I am getting 50/10 here in Colorado with Comcast at $ 100 / month (3-year contract). But I can't wait to get Google to roll out 'google fiber' in Denver for $ 70 / month you will get 1G up & down!
They started in Utah & Kansas, why? don't ask, they should start in Denver.

I also couldn't care about the download speed as I am hosting our companies website, but Comcast doesn't offer symmetric speeds, there download is always faster.

At home I have something like 3.xM download, 400k upload, in a good day, all that for just 25€, plus 10€ for the phone line

Those Telstra plans are outrageous. I suppose they have a high return of investment requirement. There ought to be a marked for higher speeds, unlimited bandwidth and fiber connections for a reasonable price. There won't be any costumers if they charge these insane amounts. Or maybe they may want to "protect" their investment in old copper. Or maybe they are afraid they might have to lay more sub sea fiber cables if consumers get more bandwidth?
Back in the day, Norway's major and state-owned telco, Telenor pushed ISDN for all it was worth (and even more) after ADSL was available. They even gave you a discount if you signed up for ISDN while you signed up for ADSL, even though it was pointless in terms of service quality.

Dave, not sure if you were wired to the router but if you were not, hook that Ethernet cable, wifi collisions specially at 2.4GHz is really bad. They have some full duplex 5GHz 2.4GHz for fast speed but tethered is the way to go.

Couldn't tell if you were wired or not, seemed you were not.

Btw @9:30 you mentioned that 8 Mb connection should give you 8 MB transfer. it's more like 1 MB transfer plus WiFi overhead and WiFi noise that will take longer. But the minute calculation was right so it was just misspoken.

And for those with higher bandwidth, commercial vs residential doesn't compare. Providers will cap you if you are running a server at home, but they won't cap commercial connections. So his price is really good for a commercial connection!

Edit: BTW Dave, what is the maximum upload usage per month before overages with your new provider.

I'm in the UK, I've never seen such speeds for such low pricing - unless you are referring to the first few months only discounted price, or it requires you to take a huge TV package.

This is all I get and all I can as I am three and a half miles from the exchange as the wire goes around one and three quarters as the crow flies.

There are plans to roll out fibre in 2017 but I doubt they will bring that to my house as its so far from any other house at least quarter of a mile

No landline costs here. ISP has their own fiber ran to this building and building already has Cat5 cabling.

Part of the internet cost is already paid in the rent since basic speed is 10/10, but the rent is still cheaper than anywhere else. I could pay twice the rent and maybe not get internet at all, I would have to use 3G or maybe really slow ADSL2+.

18.3 I called them wondering why I'm still paying old price when they updated the basic speed (perusnop.) from 2M to 10M. Old price was 20€/month for this 100M since basic speed was 2M. Actually the basic speed was never 2M it has always been 10M, so go figure I didn't mind higher speed.


this is what they offer me when I type in my address, so I'm still paying two euros more since I'm old customer apparently.

I cannot get 250M/50M here because ISP "can't" sell it to me, I've checked the cables are Cat5e and distance from my plug to basement telecom room should be less than 100 meters

Each 1000BASE-T network segment can be a maximum length of 100 meters

as a result they cannot sell that, or maybe they would need to update their devices which costs money.

Internet service providers are complete mess here in Finland. This one ISP sonera (one of the biggest if not the biggest) can't even provide bandwidth to people watching youtube as a result, people cannot watch youtube or only with crappy quality.

I forgot to mention that it is not only 1Gbps symmetrical, there are NO DATA CAPS! I wish they would expand to where I live, but will have to wait a long time before that happens.

But like every consumer ISP they forbid running servers? I guess like with everyone else something small wouldn't be a problem, probably includes reasonable usage policy.
