No longer able to view full site on mobile
« on: February 14, 2017, 10:34:35 am »
Today it's not possible to browse the forum with the full site skin & features.
Some update introducing this?

Yep I've got the same problem. Using "Request Desktop Site" (Chrome on Android) is a workaround for now though

New reply button. Every thread on mobile has to be forced to Desktop in the Chrome App. "Go to Full Site" does not work. I've yet to clear cache and cookies yet so I'll have to try that as the mobile view is the worst UX possible.

I cleared all Chrome data and it's still the same issue.

I reinstalled SMF4mobile
Works on my desktop when I click Mobile down the bottom. And the return to full site works fine.

Not working here. Cleared everything and used incognito. Only thing that solves it it's to force through browser. That breaks other pages though..

EDIT: the change works on my desktop like you describe. Still no-go on the device though.

Just for the record, viewing from my TV looks the same as it always did so no problems here, this TV uses a heavily gutted version of Chrome and does show up on some sites as being a mobile device. Slighty ironic really, a Smart TV that doesn't even know what it is and nor does anybody else for that matter.

Weird. Is it only me then? @daveshah can you try?
I've fixed it by just forcing it. EEVBlog > anything else.

Have the same issue and only by using "Request desktop site" works and only temporarily - if I come back to the same thread later it's back to mobile.

Ok, I see what you mean. The "Go To Full Site" version does not work on my mobile browser at all.
No idea why...

Do you know if something happened the last ~12 hours? It worked just a short while ago...
I don't expect you to spend a lot of time on this, just wanted to post a topic in case it happened to anyone else but me.
Probably a bug with SMF?

Same here on iPad with Safari. The Go to full site button doesn't help.

Same problem here on Windows 10 Mobile, had to change the browsing preferences to desktop to get the normal site. Mobile version is unusable.

This is unbelievable, I just pulled out my old Acer Iconia A500 tablet which hasn't been able to access this site for years and would immediatly spit the dummy with error messages such as too many redirections and other garbage. I completely gave up on ever being able to use this device again and here I am posting from it.   :-+ :)

What ever you did Dave leave it be just for me, on second thoughts you probably should keep the rest happy I suppose, restore it back the way it was if you must.   :( :'(

Posted from my Acer Iconia A500 tablet running Android 4.0.3 with Android Browser 4 in full forum view.   :)

A workaround is to visit this link:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?thememode=full

Which will take you to the forum root and set desktop mode which is then persistent.
The go to full site button does roughly the same but combines it with a redirect so you stay on the same page. I'd guess that's been broken by the latest version of the forum software.

Ok, it should now be fixed.
I installed a new version of SMF4Mobile and it seems it was impossible to remove the old one, so it had two versions running or some such. The latest version has been uninstalled.

Looks like a have an issue with SMF where almost all of my plugins (mods) are not showing up in the "Installed" manager, but they are still running.

Hi Dave, as I reported to you on Twitter, it's broken - on my 6s Plus in both Safari and Chrome I cant switch to the full site.

EDIT: NVM, it's fixed now.

Unfortunately I can't even uninstall Tapatalk, that's bug I was talking about.
EDIT: I found a way to do this manually perhaps
EDIT2: Yep, seems I can get around this, Tapatalk has been uninstalled (I think)

Just out of curiosity I tried the old Acer tablet again and it sort of still works which it hadn't for a long time as it's a really old Android version and browser anyway, it displayed to many redirects again a number of times and then after a few restarts, clean outs and refreshes it threw up a new message about Tapatalk, first time I've seen this one but I assume it's probably normal.

I'm not fussed about the tablet one bit as it's pretty old and a pain to view and post from anyway.   :(

Just a thought, is there any chance we could incorporate another jump to drop down box up at the top of pages without upsetting anything else ?, not really an issue when viewing from a PC as browsing is much quicker but on other devices such as the TV I constantly need to scroll all the way down to the bottom for the jump box or go back to the main page to then go elsewhere as only one tab can be opened at a time. There could probably be a negative side to this addition for some people but I'm not sure what it would be, for me personally it would be of great benefit, many thanks.

This forum does not have any custom mods. I do not have anyone who makes mods to the forum.
Any stuff added/changed is done so with existing SMF mods available.

The answer is, anything.
But it's a matter of someone being able to do it, and not breaking the forum in the process.
Hence why I stick to existing mods that have been tested.
