I missed out on seeing this video. I understand why Save took it down, but i think Dave has the abiliy to protect the identity of the person with some video magic and repost it.

It was a childish video, with zero added value for the channel.
Imagine this was the first thing you ever saw from EEVblog; would you bother to watch any further?
-
Just do whatever mods to the video that are required, then repost with comments disabled.

Tens of thousands would actually.
Destroying and blowing shit up is a Youtube staple for increased views.
If I did it every episode, my views would go through the roof. Seriously.
Dave.

It sounds to me this video needs to be viewed in context. Its not the first cool video Dave has posted involving the demise of electronic gear. ;D ;D ;D

I say go for it, provided the people in the video are fine with it being reposted of course.
Nobody (that I saw) threw a fit when you tried to kill the 28II, or all of those other "cheapie" meters. This thing was already dead, so what's the big deal? It's just a thing anyway.
EDIT: Ah, I see this wasn't started by Dave. I thought it was an edit and expansion of the original thread asking for feedback. Apologies.
-
Dave, if original creator is willing to give consent and you're willing to post it, I'd love to see it. ;D

I agree with you, but I gather the EEVBLOG consensus is that if the scope is faulty, to do anything worse then attach a red fault tag is inexcusable vandalism.

I have to admit I am confused.

If you own it no problem, if you do it to my stuff (without my permission) then there is a problem.
Vandalism happens to stuff you do not own.
Does not apply to living kitty-cats.

The way i see it, if its cheap jump then just blow it up. If it happens to be a dead Tektronix scope then it is only rite that it goes out in style.......... ;D ;D ;D

That's what I thought too, but I was told in no uncertain terms that I was totally and absolutely wrong - there is absolutely no excuse for damaging the front panel of a dead instrument even if you own it.

If you are referring to the marker pen thread, then that is not what was suggested at all.
The fact that carnage videos the medium and are some of you tube's highest raters says lots about the medium and its core demographic.
Any tool can blow shit up, some can even do it with all limbs intact after the event.
Do what you want in your own space with your own shit.

Repost, and disable the comment section! It will drive them crazy!!!
Don't want to upset anyone but... What do you think happens to dead gear? Some kid will probably abnormally rape it for it's gold, copper etc.
Alexander.

Awww, don't be too hard on them. Someone has to mourn for the dead light bulbs of the world. ;D ;D ;D

Cheap multimeters only cost 5$, for creative new idea's each episode! *hint hint*
For that to work, the creativity aura's should always take place at the end of the episode, otherwise the real content would be neglected by most viewers ::)

I think that the great unwashed fail to realise that these low cost Oscilloscopes are just a bit of consumer equipment. Even the servicing of the high end stuff is more of a board swapping operation these days.
Can those who complain about the humorous destruction actually fix the broken scope for a sensible cost?
-
Just put it on a separate account so it doesn't damage your popularity or piss off people. Trolling is not something Dave should do, it's childish.

The whiners are the trolls IMO. :P

Look at mythbusters. The first two or three seasons nothing really spectacular. And then stey started blowing stuff up.. Now they're everywhere...
Today on eevblog : dave blows up a 4700uf 100volt cap. Next episode: dave blows up a 5 watt power resistor.... You'd need a mop and bucket to get rid of the drool....

'Tis true.
The most frequent question I was asked in my Chem classes last year was, "Are we gonna blow something up to today?". I even had a student once ask out of the blue, "Can I blow something up?"
I said, "Sure!", then handed her a balloon. ;D
Though later that day we did introduce gummi bears to molten KClO3, so everyone was happy.

Well I guess for those who see drool as an asset......

They wouldn't. As a Destroying/blowing shit up video it was boring.
