Hilarious! I'm positive that this is not the first time Agilent has "ran over" the competition. ;D

Reading those comments: ...just wow. Why bother posting a comment at all when a YouTube video sets you off like that?
Thanks for the upload Dave, I thought it was funny. Reminds us to have fun, and not to be too serious all the time.
Loved your hike & attempted Fluke DMM destruction too, as well as Microchip's reply video to the pickit review. Both fun to watch.

It isn't entertaining, it isn't informative, it isn't funny.

Strapping it to the front of the tuck and driving into a wall at 30 mph would have been entertaining.

We already know Agilent has Tek beat in that product area.

Someone with a genuine grievance with the product taking a sledge hammer to it would have been funny.

If you indulge in the weak attempt to portray test equipment (or the manufacturers of it) as human it comes across as a jock beating up a nerd.

3:1 dislike:like isn't because 75% of voters have no sense of humour.

Sorry, had to take this one down, and I'm afraid I'm going to cut even more slack over that than posting it!
Removed at the request of the person in the video who got a bit nervous.
It had nothing to do with all the haters or the comments, but of course no one will believe that...  ::)

Damn! I missed those, didn't think to look there and now they are gone. Apparantly, this video has ruffled some feathers?

Would have liked to have the Agilent scope but beyond my price range, so i bought a Rigol DS1102E instead. I had read a review (or someones opinion) of the Tek scope and the Rigol had more to offer.

When I first saw I was like.. euhm, right. Why?

Then it realized, well, it must be an broken unit and were like 'screw it'. I don't feel bad about it, Dave had smashed some multimeters on this blog too.

If you generally read about that particular Tektronix scope, it isn't very good. So I don't feel bad for it :D

Oh, the flamers: just funny to watch. Dave, please do make sure the next video contains flames (I love how photonicinduction pronounces that), that would make it even more entertaining to watch the comments 8)

I was fortunate enough to catch all the negative comments on the video before it was taken down :). Just an idea for you Dave, was watching Pirates of the Caribbean the other night and the name (Davy Jones Locker) hit me as a possible good idea for you to use ? maybe for electronic items that fail, they end up in your LOCKER  :). Just a thought.

The next video (or very shortly at least) will contain the ultimate in Agilent marketing, just to really piss off the "Dave's a sell-out crowd"! Watch'em get all riled up!  :P
Oh, I do enjoy what I do!  8)

Pretty much, just an old broken TDS210.

Seriously you didn't miss anything worth seeing. They slowly and boringly ran over a low end Tek scope with the front wheel of a 4x4 with an Agilent 2000/3000 first sitting in the passenger seat and then held above the steering wheel so it looked like it was driving. There was a pun something like "Agilent in the driving seat" I don't really remember.

You wouldn't hate it unless you were a Tek fanboi, there just wasn't anything commendable about it. Some moaned about destroying the scope which was claimed to be faulty anyway.

Personally I found the bitching and moaning over the video rather pathetic.

It's Youtube, guys. Lighten up.

If you get emotionally wounded over test equipment getting destroyed, then I think it's time to hit the Prozac.

Damn , for once someone made good use of a Tek scope and i missed it !

I use an Tds210 scope frontpanel as doorstopper.

hmm. i think is still have the guts of one laying around ... if i do, i'll put it back together and then do a teardown.
not much to see really. the power supply board is 3 times larger than the scope board. scope board is 2 national semiconductor chips , a motoroil 68k cpu and a flash rom. that's it. the rest is an lcd display and a doublesided board with some hot-melted rotary encoders on it.  (not even soldered on. just bare pcb traces with a flimsy plastic cover on it ...

Tek used to be the rolls-royce of the scopes. built like a tank , luxury compnents everywhere , proper engineering.

Then the beancounters took over ...
Later they were borged by you-know-who ....
no thanks...

Dang Free, you REALLY don't like the tds210 heh heh.

it was my first digital scope bought new, so at the time (1998) I had nothing to compare it with and thought it was spiffy..so little and light...with 2.5K of memory so you could actually scroll digital data.

But then I look inside my Tek 495P compared to the tds210...uhm....yeah...

And I am not even sure the 495P is considered very good compared to the HP SA stuff back then...it was cheaper though.

We had TDS210 scopes on college. Year 2 we did a FM stereocoder project: convert stereo audio to mono with a band at 38kHz and a pilot tone at 19kHz.

Build a modulator up, hooked wavegen and scope up and measure the output. Hooray, our circuit works, except for that weird spike at 50kHz. It doesn't go away , doesn't matter what frequency we put in it. Got another TDS210 scope, still there. (yeah , at school they get beat up sometimes)
We turn our power supplies off and it's still there.
We place the probe near the power switch / PSU of the scope; ah, it's getting stronger. So the scope PSU is injecting 50kHz noise everywhere.. great. Resorted to Tiepie HS3 oscilloscope, atleast that works. Also lower noise floor, which is convenient.

So basically, nothing to cry about that someone drove over one :)

Agilent as everyone knows is the best at RF, but doesn't mean their normal series are not good
My previous lecturer seems to think that agilent isn't good with their DSOX... I mean who makes better scopes? NONE!
He thinks lecroy is good, you know what happened at the door  ::)

Heh, interesting to see nobody's really fussed about this here. Guess it's the home front ;)

I was pretty pissed to see this video to be honest. I don't care if this video were just 'on youtube', but I really, really didn't expect this on dave's channel. It was a horrible quality video, extremely unfunny and basically just a big waste of time and components. Really, why would you upload something so far beneath your otherwise pretty decent level of quality? So IMO it was pretty deserved to get the dislikes it got. Also, pretty terrible PR for Agilent.

I didn't see the video. I don't know who made the video.  I don't know why Dave felt obligated to take it down, after the person who made the video got scared.  They made the video, now face the consequences, if there even are any consequences for destroying your own stuff.

Jeezus, if I had an Asus laptop and an Acer laptop, and Asus ran over Acer, why would I care about the consequences or the bad PR if I bought and paid for them both. Extend that to Android vs. Apple, or Agilent vs Tektronix.

As for the comment about being bad PR for Agilent , if the person WORKS for Agilent, well they deserve what they get if they do something in poor taste with their company brand.  If they are independent, why should they, or even YOU, care about PR ?

There are way too many "fanboys" in the world.  It's all just plastic, metal and silicon.

If you get emotionally wounded over test equipment getting destroyed, then I think it's time to hit the Prozac.

agreed.

Perhaps I am tainted, but I worked in Silicon Valley, at a test equipment manufacturer.  I regularly saw equipment being destroyed as part of inventory write-off. Literally piles of test equipment getting run over, shredded or crushed. This stuff doesn't faze me now.

Yep, drove over a TDS210 in a land cruiser.
The person who shot the video had put in a fun Agilent spin on it, so people went feral like it was some attempt at Agilent viral marketing  ::)

Dave.
