If EEVBlog would like help to create the software for this let me know. It might also come in handy later. I've got the manual open. Even though it's a packet it looks fast for me to spin this out. The checksum appears just a simple modulus sum.

Requirements:
1) Windows OS
2) I'm assuming you installed the USB driver.

What I understand from the video is you'll like constant power (W) and also log it to a file. I would build it in C++ and provide you the source code and application. It would log to a comma delimited output file which would be easily imported to open office or excel.

I do not understand the problem with interfacing to the 8500. The manual describes the protocol and it works exactly as described.
I have been using some 8500 for battery test for a few years and the communication is very stable, usual I only have a problem about two times a year and it is probably windows that is the problem.

But low power load may not be as precise, the load do use some current for its measuring circuit. I have never bothered with measuring how much, but just stayed at 0.1A and above for my loads and using some other equipment when I need test at lower currents.

I could also do this (though my preferred language would be Python). I would have to do it blind, since I don't have a BK Precision meter, though that shouldn't be a major problem if someone can test the code.

Problem is that both Dave's are not software people, one is electronics engineer and other is still training to be one i believe..

For software programming person i'm sure this would not be big deal.

In fact after reading the manual, any software person should have no problem implementing software to do stuff... Protocol is so simple... Even if its not ASCII for Dave's liking..
