What changed at youtube?
« on: December 24, 2023, 11:46:56 pm »
When I go to Dave's video library, I have to endure at least 4 minutes of noise before I can watch that video and then the same thing happens again when I watch another video.

This did not happen earlier in the week.  What changed? And can I do anything about it?

Thanks!

Regards,

Dewey

I'm not having issues with YT. Not on any of my regular channels, and I also tried EEVBLOG and it worked normally.

I suggest trying a second browser if you can and/or disabling all add-ons and extensions just to try to narrow down the source of the problem.

Merry Christmas.

Nope.  You Tube is experimenting.

After trying another browser, I went to private mode and copy pasted the URL.  I got the standard 5 second ad with skip option.

Cleared all browser data and shut down for the night.

Started up just now and did not sign in.  Got the 5 minute commercial (political) with no options.  Canned it and went to VPN (Australia).  Got the correct behavior.  Signed in and got 2 short commercials (one for Aerogard spray from Australia).

When my ISP is New Hampshire, I get that 5 minute political ad and maybe 2 others.

I "think" my computer is locked up tight.  Malware Bytes Pro and extension with full protections.

First, do not login into any google or youtube account.
Second, use a browser other than Chrome.
Third, install the 'uBlock Origin' browser extension then check all the checkboxes in uBlock and update all its filters.

This might work (or it might not work) depending on your geolocation, and depending on who's trying to fry out your brains.  ;D

Yeah I’ve noticed it too over the last couple of weeks.

Rather than 2 X 5 second ads, or all adds being skipable after 5 seconds, I am now getting 2 X 15 second unskipable ads at pretty much every ad break.

I have found there are ways to skip the second ad without needing Adblock etc. but it is getting really, really annoying to deal with  :--

Plus honestly, I seriously reckon uping the ad time has got to be hurting the brands more than it helps them!

I will know if I am interested in a product or not within the first 5 seconds! If they force me to watch another 10 seconds after that, they will just start pissing me off which means I am now just associating their brand with being annoyed :P

Downward arm pump.  YES!!!  uBlock does it and I do not have to be logged out.  Smart people ROCK!
