They should have made the assignment operator something else than = imo, but that's easy to say today. In this case it was extra devious because the script actually worked and removed the ad, just not they way it was intended. That kind of bug is the worst.

Thanks to Dave it's not needed any more, I'll save the script though might be useful on other forums. :)

I prefer the footer.  You can ignore it by not scrolling down that far.  The header ad is always in your face.

Yet no one has complained about the (huge) header ad for about 4 years now  ;D

I haven't seen it in 4 years!

Soon as an ad affects my usage of a site it goes away. Wasting the limited vertical space on modern monitors is a prime example of affecting usage.

It's not the site, the problem is the stupid, cheap ass 1366x768 resolution PC manufacturers have stuck with 10 years now, despite Windows GUI elements increasing in size progressively.

Well, some users like not to use a maximized window (eg, 2 windows side by side on a 1920x1080 monitor), are using page zoom or are viewing the website on a limited resolution tablet. Luckily the forum fits well on most cases, thanks to the ad being on the top. You can get the window width below 1024 pixels just fine, which is perfect for these cases.

BUT, when you have one of those miserable 1366x768 displays (even more infuriating on a desktop PC!), the height is SO LOW that the top banner does indeed ruin your experience. Sadly this is by far the most popular resolution on laptops.

If it isn't much work, I propose the following solution: have the ad relocate itself when the browser window gets narrow, otherwise use that empty space we got here:

Actually, the ad doesn't have to relocate. The content to the left and right of the ad could just shift to the bottom or the top if the windows gets narrow.

I don't have a single display that crap. But the fact is, 16:10 or sadly, 16:9 is common. Wasting that limited vertical space is not acceptable.
