I have watched most of the videos but I have never seen that "oh shit don't film this" scene. There must be a story behind it.
-
I believe it's a still photo from when Dave used to work in an Office.

What was so secret he didn't want pictured?

I don't think there is one...

Likewise. It looks like Dave just havin' a little fun with the camera.
Then again, he could be saying, "Nooo not that one!" And out comes the magic smoke. :-DD
-
It always looked to me like he got caught while fiddling with his knob.

Photo taken at Sercel, according to original file, 27/10/2006
I was working on an ocean bottom seismic recorder, debugging a particularly elusive fault.
Don't recall who took the photo or what I was gesturing about. I think there are other photos from that day, and when looking for a photo for the channel went through the archives and thought that one looked cool.

Found another one of two young looking bastards from 2002, Thales according to the badge

Thanks for the backstory, Dave. Nothing top secret hiding in the photo, eh? Or is there? ;D

There's a copyright claim waiting to happen...
-
It'll be alright, mate. The photographer probably didn't have Dave sign a model release. Call it a draw?
-
Doug?
-
One never knows when a particular snapshot will become a world famous and iconic portrait.
You are still ways to go to match Churchill's "V" sign, or the Che Guevara's revolutionary stare, but you are getting close.
-
Nice foto from the past :)
-
Is Doug the other person on the second photo?
We need more "shit blown up" videos! >:D
Y.
-
someone posted this, so i just thinking... (timeline link f*cked up... screenshot at 00:03)

Yep, that's Doug, both of us looking much younger...

I was think of that gray beard guy in the picture too, but couldn't remember the name funny you thought the same thing. He actually died not to long ago seems like the mad professor type like cliff stole of Klein bottle/hacking fame.
Is that a coincidence or did you see that show? What was that video for? That was the days when a "viral video" were on VHS tapes and the "hits" were measured by how bad the tracking and edges of the screen were from being copied 100 times. I had a few of those tapes of people doing crazy illegal things on motorcycles and this guy who could wheelie a four wheeler as long as he wanted driving it down the highway and passing cars steering all on two wheels.

That's Bob Pease, (in)famous for his Pease Porridge column in Electronics Design magazine.
Ironically killed in a car accident, being the author of a safe driving book, and double ironically on his way home from the funeral of fellow analog legend Jim Williams.
Is that a coincidence or did you see that show?
I never knew that show existed, and my photo was taken before that video anyway.

What a strange coincidence your hands are in the same position, both have scopes, same angle same stuff on the bench.

No, as long as the photographer doesn´t climb on the bench, there are not many options to take a photo of someone working on electronics.

I think you are being contrary. Those are so similar they look staged.

The only person that was there at the time firmly confirmed that it is not staged to look like that still from the video.

Stop trying to look at labeling the shots as "staged". Focusing on the visual similarities without considering the personalities, cultural influences and industry norms has the ability to lead you on a journey of supposition that will make conspiracy theorists look conservative.
Just imagine what the response would be if someone walked into any lab/workshop/office and indicated they were going to do something that would have damaged a mission critical or expensive bit of kit - or disturb a carefully set up experiment. I think the reactions portrayed would not be an uncommon one.

If I may say, dear Dave, you have a very kind and endearing smile. I like!

You have a point... 3 years ago. Same initial state leads to the same outcome.
