Which Cam for youtube videos like eevblog

Sony Alpha 99 does all that. Also the bitrate your HG10 produces is crap - 28 mbit/s AVCHD. On a pretty old canon T2i you get 43 mbit/s MOV which makes a HUGE difference in detail, considering it will be recoded by youtube, it also takes a videomic. I totally agree with hassle factor, but when it comes to video quality, modern camcorders are trash compared to DSLR or pentaprism.

DSLRs for video is trash. And a MOV file is more compressed compared to a AVCHD file but you probably know that so a 28mbps AVCHD file is more of quality than quantity for a MOV it's just quantity
Plus DSLRs can't really handle video blogs anyway, why? First, autofocus mechanism is pretty noisy. Next you don't really find a VU meter on DSLRs
Thirdly you can gradually smoothly zoom on a video cam, but on a DSLR? No way.
Zoom range? Videocams do this easily and you hold them better in your hand and how much do you need to spend for a decent 10x lens that is pretty silent at AF? More than 800$ that's for sure.
Usability? DSLRs = 0, i know that i have one, with Full HD 1080p AVCHD 24fps. It's hard to hold it in your hand to take a video! The weight will make your hand go all wobbly if you're walking and trying to take something without a tripod
And the last time i tried to work on MOV in Vegas 10? i had to convert it!
Sure the sensor is a little bit tinier but it responds with only 2Mpixels which with a 1/3" sensor makes for a better low-light sensor than a APS-C sensor at 18Mpixels

Trying to make the first shots these days .... and so far nothing good.

I suspected it but getting something reasonnably good is really not easy at all, getting the correct lighting, correct background, correct position, correct wording, no blanks, etc. And seeing myself on the screen is a nightmare.

It will probably take some weeks before I can achieve something I would dare to put on youtube.

Technically I'm almost there, video quality is quite good, mic is ok, I learned basic video editing ... but the guy in the center of the image is just not good yet.

[EDIT] I use 1080p/50 all the time no problem with editing, it's fast enough, and that allows me to slow motion 50=>25fps.

But when you shoot and edit a lot of video for a living, the convenience factor wins hands down every time.
Quality doesn't matter a rats for Youtube, over certain point.

I wouldn't avoid a camera just because it doesn't have a microphone input.

It's quite easy to record additional sound using some standalone mp3 recorder or whatever, you just need to add the sound during editing to the original clip.  Use one of those things that makes it easy for you to match the sound to video, also called a slate or a clapboard:

No way!, unless you are shooting and editing a serious feature doco or whatever and you have the time to do it all in editing.

For video blogging use like mine, take one of my lengthy reviews for example, they can have 100+ clips.
Try syncing audio and doing a clap for each once of those, forget it. You'd go insane after a couple of videos.
The biggest things you can do to drastically reduce your editing time are:
1) Shoot and level all audio in-camera.
2) Shoot all your clips in sequence.

I thought (and still think) the same thing. It's better when you learn to swallow your pride and just upload

I couldn't help thinking the anti DSLR statements were a bit sweeping. I've seen some absolutely outstanding looking video shot on a DSLR.

No one is doubting the video quality that can be had with a DSLR.
In fact, any decent camera in any form (DSLR, camcorder, sports, phone, P&S) is cable of shooting good quality video under the right conditions if you know what you are doing.

Given that this thread is specifically asking about about a camera for video blogging like mine, there is absolutely no question that a proper camcorder is the right tool for the job.

It would want to for $3000 + lens.
But I think the max recording time might be 30min? If so, blah.
No zebra stripes though, and no audio filters, disappointing.
My Canon has that, plus dual SD card with dual recording or relay mode if one runs out.
Look into the fine details and you'd probably find more issues. Like can you change the battery pack with it on the tripod?
Swapping the macro lens between shots would suck arse too, that exposed sensor would get filled with gunk in no time. On some videos I might swap that macro lens in and out a half dozen or more times.
For that price I'd rather have the Sony NEXVG20/30 video camera, by a mile.

I have a single 500W pointed toward the ceiling, without video quality is not good enough (I have a small room, with an even smaller window, only a few 20W halogen for normal work).

Ordered the plastic parts through Sculpteo, and the PCB just arrived from Seeed Studio ... assembled one, it's just crazy, I'll take a few shoots today but the image is crazy sharp, it's perfect.

I power the LEDs from a lab supply at 12V for a bit less than 1A, can be powered from a 3S Lipo battery also for portable applications.

I use the SX220HS from Canon to record..
but it stops after 15 mins of recording due to CMOS overheating.. did one teardown vid with it.. Turned out to be quite good. although it's .mov

yeah my canon dslr sensor overheats at about 10-15mins recording in full 1080P too bummer, I didn't realise that when I bought it but hasn't been an issue for me so far. Incredible quality though.
