When replying to a particular post, like I am doing know, people should quote the post they are replying to. That way, it doesn't cause too much confusion. If Dave disables the remove button, people could still replace their posts with something like a blank space or a "Post removed" message, but since people would be quoting messages, it wouldn't matter.
Yep, good point. If you want to forever immortalise someones post, just quote it.

Not that it's always a bad thing.
It's nice to edit a quote and remove text before/after the sentence you're replying to. Especially if it's a really long post.
That probably wouldn't be possible if the quote system was locked down.
That is very unethical, I would ban someone who does this to say something negative about the author of the fake quote.
