EEVblog #229 - Quick impression at Dave's new lab
« on: December 27, 2011, 04:09:37 am »
Hey Dave,  congratulation on your 1st video at your new lab.

Well, brief impressions, looks alot better than the old one, also I love the background better than old one, maybe it has the white wall behind those equipments that giving me a better spacious feel rather than those old bricks wall.

Although I'm not the expert on lighting stuffs, at the new video, maybe you could add some light at the right hand side to lighten up a bit your left face, and its better than the old one where the light came from above your head.

Btw, the sound is also better, not sure why, maybe its in bigger room.

Here an example to give you the idea on the ambient light comparisons on old vs new :

Again, thanks for the latest video !

The old lab had front lights on the wall I'm facing as well lighting up my face. The new lab needs that too I think, not just the left side.

Still, as-is, it's very usable, just some tweaks required.
Surprised at the decent quality of the sound so far.

Dave.

Interesting how very few red elements add a sense of warmth to the old lab. The new lab looks somewhat clinical in comparison whithout them.

Is it some sort of an office space ?
I wonder what neighbours will say about your lovely rants ;)

Guessing from the number of phone lines and phone jacks there was obviously some hotline service there before. I'm sure the neighbours are already used to heavy language and would not mind Dave's light language. :P

Pretty much any regular office space would have that many telephone outlets available.
It is kind of given that this is regular office, but I wonder just how strange it must be for landlord to see electronic lab setup in an office space :)

I'm guessing that this is something that perhaps scared off the first landlord, David.

I suppose I'm curious if there's any extra considerations when setting up such a lab in an office space. (apart from extinguisher).

Put a light behind you on the top shelf, pointed town to your top of your head and sholders.  It will add a nice hair light, and make you pop off the background a bit more.

and next Dave will be on the front cover of FHM or Cosmopolitan ...

anyway - backlit hair is usually only a good idea on "non noisy" backdrops and have huge issues with lens flare unless you have a camera man and a light guy controlling it. I don't think it will work on Energizer Jones :-)
