3D printers. What can I sell them for?

I bought these a while back and I was wondering what a reasonable asking price might be.

What should I be listing them for? If I had to guess, at worst the logic board is gone on the black one. And the grey one was working before I changed an extruder or temp sensor and got the shits and gave up but it was definitely running fine before I decided to 'upgrade' it

I think they are also known as a Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus


I started off with the Monoprice but broke it somehow. It’s beyond my ability to diagnose and fix it but I’m reasonably sure somebody else could. It starts up and everything.

So I got the Cocoon Create which works fine but I changed out the extruder nozzle or something years ago and it wasn’t feeding properly so it’s just been sitting around for way too long in my garage. It works 100% I just can't remember what I was messing with before I left it. extruder nozzle or the temperature sensor I think. Comes with spares of both./

why dont you sit down and think to yourself ok how much would i be willing to pay for this,maybe even have a look around on ebay and other second hand market places,To be honest for  2 busted 3-6 year old $400 printers id be happy if someone just took em to get them out the way.

I watch old 3D printers on Craigslist sit there for months, even at dirt cheap asking prices. That market is advancing so rapidly and the prices on new entry level machines is so cheap. Why buy outdated tech that does not work? The first question  I ask myself is, if it is so fixable, why doesn't the seller fix it and get a better price. Piles of used parts go for pennies on the dollar. I think you are in for a disappointing result.

Yeah I didn't have high hopes or anything. So your advice would be, get it running and keep it as I won't get anything for it anyway?

Agree with what everyone has said about the printers & parts... they're basically scrap at this point, maybe useful if you find someone building or repairing something, but only if it's cheaper than just buying a part. The enclosure looks pretty nice though... if you find the right buyer needing an enclosure & storage that's likely to be your big ticket item.

I'd probably list the enclosure as it's own thing, and throw everything else in a box and let people pick-a-part $5 an item or make an offer to take the whole box.

If you are seeking to offer these as functional or near functional, I offer you these comments:
1. A couple of months ago I bought a BRAND NEW Creality Ender-3 V3 SE complete with warranty from a bricks and mortar store (Jaycar) for $249 Aussie bucks.
2. After very easy assembly, it worked - right out of the box, producing quite good prints.
3. The Wanhao Duplicator I3 I purchased second hand about 6 years ago sits in the corner gathering dust - because (as a 3DP newbie) I was not enthusiastic about the learning curve to get decent results from it.  I have watched a few 3DP Youtubers, so I have a basic grasp of what's involved, but no practical experience in the optimising and troubleshooting disciplines - and I didn't really have the time to embark on that journey.

Like others have said, your machines are not likely to bring you much, if anything - and whatever they might bring will likely not justify the time spent trying to sell them.  Parting things out is an option - so is giving a 'nearly functional' unit to a keen youngster who shows an aptitude in this tech.


I've been down this path many times.  Tech that was worth reasonable money a few years ago is worth next to nothing today.  Some things I held on to for years because they were "cool", potentially useful and/or "valuable" ended up in e-waste because it just wasn't worth the hassle.

Yep agree with everyone. I started with an Ender 3 and I modded it so much I ended up with a lot of useful parts such as M3,4, and 5 bolts, 2020 channel, and various metal parts I've used in other projects. So technically the old printers aren't worthless, but their worth is not really as printers but good parts for your spares drawers. But they won't fetch you any decent money I'm afraid.

I just upgraded from a nicely modded ender 5 (BLtouch, BTT board, marlin etc) I could not even give it away. Maybe if I put marlin back on I might have had a chance but it was not worth my time to put marlin back and tune it up, as I didn't want to sell someone a printer that didn't work well when they received it.

In the end I just took it apart, kept a few things and put the rest in the bin, as a few others have said.
