If you are in Auckland, New Zealand and want to top up all your electronic bins i HIGHLY recommend you contact this guy and go fill up a BIG box when he's next on site (usually 10am-1pm)
https://www.facebook.com/groups/103240780206937/permalink/461381951059483/
Bring cash !

Please note: The guy is looking for people to buy like 3kg+ boxes of stuff at a time. Don't go and ask how much for 1 DPDT switch!  :box:

He's slowly taking it all away for scrap. Most of the copper transformer wire has gone. It's the entire basement of a house packed wall to wall with shelves full of stuff.
Price is $10 per kg but if you help him carry some stuff out to his truck you may get it even cheaper.
He's could use some help. When you see just how much stuff is there for him to clear out you will understand.

A lot of it is total junk. Lots of rusty metal, metalwork gear, old pcbs, and random old junk.
However maybe 1/3 of it is wall to wall electronic parts and maybe 1/4 of that is *brand new old stock*.

Switches
Fuses
Resistors, (TH, inc high power)
Capacitors (TH, lectrolytic /film etc)
Inductors
Digital 4000 series (TH)
Transistors (TH)
New Panel meters in boxes
Boxes full of 2.54mm connectors stacked to the roof.
Boxes stacked high full of DB9 connectors and backshells
Screws
Wire
Heatshrink

There's no SMT stuff, so keep that in mind

Honestly i can't do it justice just how much stuff is there. I have never in my life seen so much electronics in one place.
You have to walk past a lot of junk to get to the good electronic area in the back.

If you're thinking.."Ah the good stuff is probably all gone already" it's not.
(Although.. we did already take boxes of old German audio grade film caps that sell for $10 each on ebay hehehe.  I'm sure there's more jems like that though, just too much stuff to check everywhere)

There is so much stuff hidden under things, or areas that you just can't get to yet because there is too much stuff in the way.
You might pull out an unassuming box of old switches and find a bag full of 500 brand new DPDT toggles in the back. etc..

What you see in this pic is probably 1/6 of the electronic area alone.

Look more like it might have been Christchurch.

I don't feel quite so bad now. I thought my junk heap was bad. But it really isn't.

You will have to contact him from the Facebook link in first post and get the details yourself.

Nope, not yet.
I've been there twice but the guy in change is only on site for an hour or 2 so some days.
So you really don't have time to shoot video AND get stuff.
It was a mad dash just to look everywhere and throw stuff into a box.

There is a small chance i will go back with a friend from work.
If i do i will try to get more video showing the stuff actually on the shelves. But it will be cellphone video. Maybe some canon 40D DSLR stills.

No guarantees .

From what i could gather it's a mix of parts from a transformer winding business and inventory from 2 or 3 companies that used to produce electronic goods but went out of business. All collected over 40+ years.

Nope will definitely be lots of stuff still there. I dunno how much 'good' stuff is left though.

That video i posted above was taken by a friend on 19th Jan,

He is slowly taking it away for scrap as time permits (~trailer load per day), but there's so much stuff there that it's taking months.

Aha copy that - I read on the facebook page that it was being dumped on the 29th Dec so thought I had missed the boat.

Might be worth a visit.

I just went back today (27 Jan) and got a few more things.
Mainly just helped a friend find stuff he was after, and I took the DSLR for some pics.

Here's ~100 photos i took today - https://photos.app.goo.gl/pK4H4VLMRN4peQGT8
There is also a cellphone video coming with some narration. I will link it here when he puts it on YouTube.

I'll be doing the same - but I don't think I will get a "Thank You".  I'm expecting "the look" - which will mean to communicate something along the lines of "don't you dare".

Thank goodness it's Auckland.

Seriously though, what I see in those pictures is 99% trash.

The boxes of buttons, switches, and heatsinks, they would sell on trademe, the rest of it, scrap/dump, not worth the trouble.

Does Auckland have a makerspace or something similar even an amateur Radio group? At least if there is getting the chance to pick over the leftovers may help both sides? Or maybe even the owner gets some help to cleanup the mess working bee style for reward to the helpers?

Reminds me to keep some sort of a list here as to the division of spoils for my toy collection should I get hit by a Red Bus :o

He's not going to ship anything for people.
He's way to busy for it, and it's not going to be worth his time.
Unless you know someone in Auckland/NZ?

Unfortunately the place just caught on fire today and it has mostly burnt out the basement.
At least it's not a total waste, a lot of the useful stuff was already removed.
Still, a lot of new old stock will have burnt though  :(
