I am fence sitting.  There are a couple of things I lust after.  BUT.  I already have a pile bigger than Grandpa's stuff with much that needs work.  I really shouldn't, but it there are cool things there.

So far my sensible side is winning.

You need to spend more time in the TEA thread.    >:D

The fluke 3330B, the reason the output is not latching is probably the electrolytics on the current limit board, at least that's what was wrong with mine. Pretty much every electrolytic is bad.

If you want to get people to drool a little more, check the voltage coming out of the zener reference board, it's in the left row of boards (looking from the front) and has two 2mm banana jack's, red and black, on top to verify the 10V output, perfect for some multimeter probes...

Also, just to check, but you did press down the security switches on the top and bottom of the case (normally held down by the case)? They also prevent you entering OPR

So was it the electrolytics on the current limiter board then? I think the manual says you can even pull the board and run without it (but don't do that without double checking).

Also, watch out for noise on the output (use your AC voltage mode on the DMM to measure this). One of the big black-cardboard covered electrolytics in the middle-back of the system (attached to the mainboard) went open circuit on mine and caused oscillations at the frequency of the pre-regulator. I still have some noise from the chopper due to some bad electrolytics on the regulator board which I couldn't replace yet. It is a game of wackamole hunting down sources of noise but I'm nearly done!

I think there's another lesson .... grab every little bit at the first visit.  I might go so far as to sweep the floor and sort out the wheat from the chaff (and dust) later.  I know it's extra time and effort requiring a bit more space (which you may not have had at the time), but it gets around this problem.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had already swept the area out and tossed anything they felt was useless.  It may be that since they had cleared the bulk and got enough for the stuff you took, that they would be happy to dump the shrapnel.

Of course, there's always the possibility that there could be a legitimate reason why they haven't got back to you yet - and we can only cross our fingers for you.  It would be an extra gesture on their part to honour Grandpa's gear in its finding new homes and purpose.

Edit:
Just read what you posted in the TEA thread.  Doesn't sound like there is any hope.

Unfortunate.

Oh.

Not a very trusting lot.  I can sort of understand that, but it is frustrating.

Got behind on the forum posts. Sorry to hear about the turn of events on the missing parts. That's a drag, but we're no strangers to the hunt for parts mules. I need to get caught up on the TEA thread — that can be an endeavor, too.

That 419A look like it is in pretty good nick, usually the labels are flaked off on the ones I see for sale. If you're going to keep it then I'd suggest leaving it turned on as this seems best for the photo-conductive chopper's photocells.

The 419A is all things being well is heading my way after I spotted it in the original threads photos. My Fluke 895A Differential meter needs the company  ;)

Obvious, really: 'Evil Tempter'.

Huh?  You want something more eloquent or imaginative?  Then don't ask in a forum frequented by engineering minds!

That looks to be interesting gear.  How about manufacturer, model no, condition, price, etc? The volt-nut crowd will take particular interest.  Probably at prices far higher than I can justify.

Your subject line is not very descriptive.  I suggest a short heads up in Metrology that you have a bunch of calibration gear for sale. with  links  to the messages with the details for this equipment.

You got to buy right to sell right.

Or as I prefer to put it... You cant clench the cheeks and fart  at the same time.

Everyone is a critic. I have arranged a couple of things 'so far' from the goody pile and likely another toy next week after I get through the clear fronted envelopes that need sorting before the end of the month  |O

Drop Inverted a PM with an idea or an offer I reckon he would throw in a kidney to swap something of his for a 3458A for example  :-DD

I'll give you my personal situation and my overall take and advice.

1.  I am still mulling a purchase.  But there is nothing there on my have to have list, and the prices aren't forcing me to  buy.  The prices are fair, but not going to make me buy just cuz it is too good a deal to pass up.  I am sympathetic to helping you get out of the hole you have dug trying to help someone out so there is that factoring in my decision.  On top of that I am off to visit family in a day or two so won't try to pull the trigger on anything until I get back in a few weeks.

2.  Patience will be required.  Lots of it.  If you search the buy sell list for my handle you will find a large lot of gear that is available.  You will also find how long it has been there and will find a hint at how much has sold.  Far more has been sold on Ebay than on this forum.  And prices are not comprehensible to me.  Things I think are of low value have sold quickly at relatively high prices.  Other things which seem to have a solid value based on sales have languished for months with no takers even when the price is reduced to a third of the established sold price.  This has been a multi-year journey for me.

One thing which has become obvious.  If the item you are selling has a tie in to the drug world it will sell fairly quickly and at high prices.  Precision scales, lab heaters and other chemistry equipment has sold far better than purely electronics gear.  Of course that also creates an ethical dilemma.  And I don't have any advice or ideas for how to tie the gear you have into that market.

Another example is the
FS:  New TEST EQUIPMENT repair parts.. HP / AGILENT / TEKTRONIX / FLUKE, etc.
thread. It's been around since mid 2017, but still going with parts requests from time to time. So, it's good having this here with what's available.

Changing this thread's title to be more about the kind of gear available (RF, calibration, vintage, etc.) would be beneficial for catching the eye of those passing by who may have an interest, but wouldn't otherwise click to see what's inside "grandpa's lot".

I think the price list is a must if you want to move things in a timely manner. Adding OBO to items where you have some room will help as well. I sometimes will buy something I don't really need because the price was too good to pass up. I don't have a lot of experience in used T&M equip, but if I see the word "Calibrated" and nothing else, I would expect it to have an in-date cal sticker on it, but I maybe be just being naive.  Best of luck.

I would be happy to offer you genuine advice, although I'm pretty sure you'd rather cut off your nose than accept it at face value. Nevertheless, I am a PM away if that's what you'd prefer.

I'd be interested in at least some of that bird gear now that I have time to start getting my ham shack set up. Let me look through the pics.

Would you be willing to send one 'HP3480B_with_3482A' to Japan (and what would the shipping cost be)?
Where does all this test equipment keep coming from?!?

Do you all prefer the single item with description and price or just the list that is on the top of page 7? Your feedback is welcome. I will SHIP ANYWHERE and do the eBay thing if needed for any or all items, per request. I am here for you to get the gear you want.

YES to all pricing options :-DD

You aren't going to please everybody no matter what you do. Every time I flip a coin at present it seems to be a Fluke but which one ;)

I'm just enjoying seeing all the stuff being presented.

I wouldn't mind a 3456A, but I can't afford it, it's too big for my current work area - and, to be honest, is far more meter than I need (although 4 wire measurement capability would be nice).  Same can be said for a couple of other things.

My needs are mainly vicarious and are being well satisfied just browsing through this thread...
