Bubble push buttons with LED
« on: October 08, 2010, 02:06:27 pm »
Hello

I am looking for a model and company which sells this kind of buttons:

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/4945/pushbutton.png

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/8857/pushbutton3.png

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/7786/pushbutton4.png

Each push button measures 1cm x 1cm aproximately. The button has a top
transparent bubble which can be removed in order to insert an LED. I don't need
the LED, just the button and its bubble.

The footprint of the button can be seen in the pictures. There are white boxes
which may receive other buttons. Those show that there are 2 pins for the button
and 2 pins for the LED.

Please let me know if you know its model or where to buy them.

I already looked for them in Mouser.com in 250 pages, photo by photo and didn't have luck.

Thanks for any advice.

I love a good scavenger hunt!

Unfortunately I can't find anything about those in specific. There must be dozens of companies making illuminated tactile switches! From the looks of it they might be more than a few years old, if so they might not be in production any more. It looks also like the black plastic top is 'plastic riveted' onto the white frame below. Most of what I could find clipped together at the very least, and you could find versions sealed to a spec. I tried alibaba thinking that I might have better luck looking through cheaper stuff, but there's just too many options and they rarely have decent pictures or data sheets.

I found dozens of other options to suggest, but I figure you'd have gone with one if that was your intent. Just in case though, I did find a single manufacturer (ITW) who had modules with T1 LEDs inside a switch. If all else fails, maybe it's a start?

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks a lot Phil.

They are old as you say. They come in an italian PCB which has a 89C52 uC... oldie, right?

It seems that my boss has found them. He will get them tomorrow and we will see if they fit and have the same dimensions.

About the buttons on the link you found, I saw lots of them yesterday while browsing 250 pages in Mouser... my eyes were hurt at the end. Thanks for the link anyways.  ;D

I will tell you tomorrow if my boss actually gets the buttons so that nobody else keeps looking for them in vain.

Omron A3AT-9 maybe??

Close, pretty close. Maybe Omron has a similar model. Thanks!

At very least that's the best datasheet I've seen so far. Covers all the options and dimensions, disassembly instructions, excellent!
The real pain was the pinout, I couldn't find anything that was even close to the diagonal plus offset of the original.

Thanks a lot Phil.
No worries. :)

hmm... i didn't see the original pinout...

a little off-topic, but i've been wanted to try out their (omron) b3w-9 series of switches. link

they look pretty nice for only $2-3 each! normally, that type of switch is like $10 and up!

Close, pretty close. Maybe Omron has a similar model. Thanks!
np! good luck!

i think not directly, but your experience could be the same as me. i created a thread for it here as well, cannot track it down anymore, and there is no satifactory solutions from the replies :(
but that is just my case, hope you'll find the answer. i think they got it from company that is not "online active"

It seems that my boss could not find the very same buttons. He bought different ones but with an embedded LED... they look just like the ones we found here.   :(

Thanks for reading and helping guys.

Thanks Shafri. My boss decided to use the different buttons he bought. I think they might not fit in the current chasis, but it's now up to him.  :-\
