That looks like a very sweet deal to me!
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I think the problem will be getting the probes cable for the 16 digital channels.   So if one forgets about the digital channels, is the 54645D a good two channel 100MHz scope ?

54645D is a prefectly good analogue scope - very responsive and a reasonable amount of memory.
The cables aren't as simple as 40 way ribbon as they have attenuation built in, but for noncritical applications you can improvise something without too much difficulty if necessary.
If you're on a budget these are a good bargain.

The probes cables are very universal and fit on many HP/Agilent/Keyisight models and they turn up on Ebay regulary. I have used this scope a lot for FPGA debugging 15 years ago.

These 54xxx scopes bury in the fine print the single shot bandwidth, which is not very high. For the 54645D it is 50 MHz.

I ordered one.  I've been wanting a CRT based digital scope for to put between my analog BK 20 Mhz and Rigol ones.  Hopefully it will be cool!

Does anyone have any information about the header/pinout/attenuation/part number for the logic part?

Edit - wow that LA cable is not cheap for sure...

Are there any calibration storage issues I need to be concerned about?  The manual says it is stored in NVRAM.  Is that battery backed up and I need to check a battery, etc.?

Now, if it was in Australia for $150 AUD, I'd be sorely tempted... but freight and exchange rate kinda takes the edge off.

What would you like to pay for one in Aus for? I have a few :)

I think you can fully calibrate from the front panel

My old 15MHz Hitachi still covers most of what I do, so this would be an opportunity purchase. As such, my budget would top out at $200 - and I'd still get in trouble.

I can remember selling my 54622D for $2200 or so maybe 5 years back. I knew they would drop in value pretty quick.
Got it for $50 from my former company  ;D

It would have been a better deal with the pod, but that's still a good price.

I have one of these and it's a pretty decent scope.  It should have 1M of memory and it was one of the first with Megazoom.

If you want fft, you'll need to get the gpib module that goes on the back.  The ones I saw had the serial interface module, which is fine but it won't give you fft.  Any of those modules will let you store multiple waveforms.

The logic cable that's supposed to come with it splits into 2 8 channel pods.  Somebody is selling one now on ebay for $255 and they can be pricey.  On the other hand, they were common across HP's line and if you look hard, you might find a deal.  I found a 64620a  54620a LA with the cable for $50.

Somebody is selling a made-up pod using some HP pieces for around $59 right now, also on ebay.

The pod has an R/C network in it and if you want to make up your own, it shouldn't be too bad.  The specs in that are in the manual somewhere.  The scope side connector is just a standard 2 row header, although it's recessed a bit.

Does anyone have any experience with this item?  or a custom project someone around here has for the logic analyzer side?

Tracking says I should have it Wednesday...

One left now (no I didn't buy one).
I'm sure it's great scope, especially for the price, but all I'm seeing is 100MHz bandwidth and 200MSa/s. Thank god it says HP on the sticker and not [insert far east brand here].... 8)

You can use a 01650-61607 cable and a 01650-61608 probe instead of the original 54620-68701 Digital Probe set. They can be found on the auction site for much less than the original. You need the 01650-61608 probe because it contains the required RC network, but the cable could be replaced by a standard 40-pin IDE ribbon cable if need be.

Just as a question - why the differences in these cables?  I couldn't find 01650-61607 on eBay, but it looks like it is just a single cable that connects to the 01650-61608.

I ended up ordering this off of eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/252507192693?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It looks like it may have the 01650-61608 on the end of it perhaps?

Yes, it looks like that's a 01650-61608 (a.k.a. E5383A) on the end of that cable, and he also uses the standard IDE cable as I mentioned. He uses the adapter boards because the IDE cable connectors can barely make a contact with the headers on the scope and the probe on their own.

As far as I know, the only difference is that the original cable is configured as 2 x 8 bits, whereas the E5383A is 1 x 16 bits. Also, E5383A has an additional connection for the Clock signal on pin 3 - I believe that pin is not connected on the scope header.

You can see both the cable and the probe in this auction:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Agilent-1650A-1651A-Logic-Analyer-Probe-Lead-Set-01650-61607-61608-/232009766433?hash=item3604dc1621%3Ag%3Aht0AAOSwGXtXg-%7EC&nma=true&si=VJMCnwCk2Xa0ulC9dcqR5Dw44as%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The nice thing about that cable is that the connectors have the proper depth (no need for adapter boards) and it is more flexible (and presumably more durable) than the IDE cable.

Mine just arrived - all initial tests work and it is nice and clean.  Some of the encoders have some bounce back.  I'll pull it apart and blow it out.

If they're the same ones that are on the 545XX and 548XX and later scopes, a bit of exercise usually fixes them. No need to take apart.
