high current diodes (800A)
« on: February 07, 2016, 12:03:37 am »
I'm looking for some high current schottky diodes for use charging super caps off some MOTs'
the MOTs' will be putting out somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000A at 2-3V
Does anyone know of high current low vf diodes I've been searching but haven't been able to find any decently priced ones

That will be huge power dissipation. You better use MOSFETs instead, that can decrease the power dissipation by an order of magnitude easily. Also they can be paralleled without any significant consequences unlike diodes.

If your planning to put 2-3kW through MOTs, you have other problems to deal with first.
A few threads on the forum where people report MOTs running hot at 500W output.
A rewound welder transformer would have less overheating issues.

Not sure if you've seen these videos, he builds a stupidly high current ~3V transformer.
