I see they want $400 (AU $566) for a corroded, broken turbomolecular pump, too - I see at least one broken blade (void from missing blade visible at about 3:00 in the second pic, and what I'm guessing is the broken off bit is seen slightly to the left of and below the center of the third photo).  At the very least it will need a new rotor and stator.

I passed on a Tek TDS7104 with a smashed screen and case for $105aud.  It looked like it had been dropped square on its face and someone had stomped on the top of it. Surely this was a dumpster dive that was then resold

My guess is they were faulty or surplus in the warehouse and someone dropped the pallet. Really a testament to those potentiometer shafts though.

That reminds me of a silly temporary job I had a few years back.
I had to re-program a bunch of Dishwashers--there were different programs for each country,& this lot had slipped past with the wrong one.

Halfway through the 1000 or so,I found that I'd left a screw out of one of the last 15,& was a bit concerned.
Just then,I heard an almighty crash----the bloke on the forklift had knocked a stack over,mangling the ones I'd just completed,so I never had to "own up" to the missing screw!

Apologies - my second only post. I was distracted by the irony of a very similar device in the sale at that point in time. BTW my interest and motivation in taking the time to post in the first place is in communicating awareness and opportunity to people who I would think would appreciate to know rather than not. There is no real worthwhile pecuniary interest on our part - I don't own the stuff (the Government does) - main motivation is I just see so much wastage and lost opportunity for people who have no way of otherwise knowing about what is very obscure and the cost of letting the market know is not justified or paid for by vendors. A forum such as this is an effective conduit for that purpose. I am aware other agent(s) leave spectrum analysers etc crammed in pallets out in the weather in a paddock shared with cars and trucks for sale.

BTW I have seen authorities smash oscilloscopes with mallets because they had a "data" button on the front panel. Maybe that happened here? (joking).

PLEASE buy the second one Dave, It would make a great teardown video... maybe see if you can resurrect parts of it even? It could prove interesting. Worst case, put it back on Ebay again.

With a "bit" of luck you could ferret some infos out of samsung from one of those...

These scopes come with a standard ATX intel mainboard. They are still supported by LeCroy and parts are still available.

But frankly, I'd probably not even take them for free. The first one (WaveMaster) is pretty much not repairable as the large dent in the front bottom edge means that its front end section will have been smashed. The second one (WavePro) will most certainly have a cracked mainboard (which is pretty cheap to replace, though, those intel boards often go for a few bucks), and the large slit on the side very likely means that a lot of the internals (i.e. display controller board, the 4port gbit ethernet controller that connects the acquisition modules to the PCI bus, the DVO adapter) will have been smashed as well.

It also looks that both scopes have been opened (probably before getting smashed) and parts removed, so they might not even contain all the parts (and the four 10GSa/s ADC modules are painfully expensive to replace if missing!). From the photos it also looks like they have spend some time exposed to the elements (i.e. rain) as I'm sure I can see beginning corrosion. I'd say it's highly unlikely that they have been in working condition before getting smashed, these are most certainly dumpster diving finds.

Dumpster finds for sure, but I would wager that they were in perfect working condition before whatever military that owned them decided to percussively decommission them.

Did anyone else notice in the second photo there is a pixelated patch? It looks like there was an asset label or something that they couldn't be arsed removing, so they pixelated it so you can't tell where they are from. Probably a dumpster dive, not sure if they are motivated or smart enough to strip for parts if they can't even remove a sticker

They probably dropped it whilst legging it from the rossers.....

No, it didn't work when I needed it. Fortunately it didn't damage the floor when I threw it. Needless to say the phone looked just like the scopes in the first post  I decided not to buy a new mobile phone because paying 200 euro for making 4 phone calls in 3 years is rather expensive.

Trying to decide if thrown into a dumpster, or a forklift ran into the pallet they were stored on.
Some of those dents in the side are about right for a small forklift tyne.
