Sounds like a plan

fwiw: The square switches tend to gum up a bit and make you think the scope has the usual suspect issues,
but if you spray them up a bit with the good stuff sparingly, and work them a lot.. well I have been on the right side of 'persistant luck' in that regard with all the old school Tek, Telequip, and Phillips oscilloscopes.
Some of the problematic switch/controls are a hassle to get to and get into,
but a couple of patient hours work pays off with years of return use
(and less urges to sledge the problem) Before doing that, confirm there is some sort of life or triggered flicker when you work the switches, then track down the most severe ones first, you may not have to do them all
(I'm minimal and or LAZY) If you haven't powered up the storage oscilloscopes on yet, Tek manuals recommend you do it a certain way if they haven't been on for a while.
Suggest a quick looksee in the owner manual PDFs.
It's a -must do- for the 5111 and probably why mine is still kicking like new !
That's all I can remember for now,
millions may disagree, but I get most of my gear working with elbow grease first,
before getting medieval probing PSUs, refreshing solder joints, banging boards and the usual
--another relaxing afternoon gone south-- business
