Elektor Files wanted for the 1997 Advanced RLC Meter Project
« on: January 24, 2021, 12:48:24 pm »
Hi!

Can anyone assist me with the Elektor Hex and Jed programming files needed for the Advanced RLC Meter published in the August 1997 and on issues of Elektor please?

The files I need are 976506.zip and 976507.zip

If anybody actually built this RLC Meter and can dump the files from a working one I'd be very grateful - I can't find them on the Elektor Website any more, they're not on the 1990-1999 Archive DVD I bought, and the only CD I had them is no longer readable!

Chris Williams

It's an enigma that's what it is!! This thing's not fixed because it doesn't want to be fixed!!

Hi Chris,
I should have them, if memory helps.
Therefore I'm actually locked-down one carhour away from my lab (damn CoV-02).
Next week I'd get a pass to go to the lab.
I'll recontact you as soon as I'm there.
Have constantly better days.

Don't be afraid to ask Elektor, they have dedicated staff for archives. Easier if you have the project #. I've just emailed them.

Hi!

I got a polite email back from Elektor Services this morning to say that unfortunately they no longer had these files, so if any Member has these or has built the Advanced RLC Meter from April 1997 Elektor and can dump them I would be very grateful!

I was just looking at different LCR meter designs last week when considering how I might design one.

My notes show that Elektor also published an LCR meter design in March of 2013.

The Elektor project looked really good but almost 50 IC's incl. 8051 clunker and several hundred passives. Pricing the PCB and kits I thought it's way too complex/expensive to be practical, and there's unknown support for H/W and F/W bugs.
Now I can't find the PCB or parts and Elektor seems confused about what they are selling - magazines, chinese modules or a few PCB's from the magzine articles. Sigh.

To make a new LCR meter, you would use more powerful MCU and firmware to cut the parts count down to something reasonable.

the mentioned project had recent updates,  just register to get the files ... and apparently it is possible to use pcbway or jlcpcb  to make the boards ?? the author is an orcad user

Yes it has tons of parts and reading the hole project (over 2 Elektor books) the author explains his component choices

An 800 euro price tag is scary for an hobbyist,  try to find an equivalent and you'll know how much you will pay

This project could be enhanced if you have some talented cpu code maker around here ?  since you dont have any code source.

I'm gonna try  to price all the bom parts to see how much it could cost me ?
