(UK) - - Can anyone spare some 'scope probes - even basic ones?

Hi everyone.

I was evicted back in July (horrible experience, lots of back story, but no sob story) - I've managed to just about get my mental health back to almost normal. In the process, my equipment has been shipped off into storage units somewhere (I do not drive, have no income - govt being an absolute NIGHTMARE what with my inability to travel, and them unwilling to SANELY process my claim for UK "Universal Credit"), so I am here with my parents right now, have been since July, zero income, and a few boxes of my bits and bobs.

Long story short, I have managed to find my JYETech scopes - "DSO Shell" and "DSO112a", but neither have probes with them (they are in storage - and inaccessible for now).

I am trying to keep my mind occupied, mental health has suffered a lot. My appeal is this - can anyone spare some basic 1x/10x scope probes (BNC ends) and maybe post them to me, within the UK? I am not one to ask such things usually, but I am the kind of chap who likes to help others, and would gladly do the same if someone else was in this situation.

No pressure, no guilt, but I have no income - LITERALLY none - and no way to pay you. If you are willing to do this, I would be most grateful indeed to you, but if not, no worries.

Take it easy have a lovely day.

Matthew.

Surely you can scrape up 15 quid to order a pair from China? You could probably earn that much fairly easily doing random jobs for people. Stuff like assembling Ikea furniture or raking leaves.

If I could I wouldn’t be asking. It’s complicated.

cut BNC 50 Ohm cable one end off

Solder  4950 Ohm series resistor at end of cable

Use scope BNC at 50 Ohm input not 1 meg

Voil;a a wideband zero cost Zo X 100 probe.

Impedance is just 5,000 Ohms but fine for digital and LV work

ETI, my sentiments for your situation

Had similar in Paris with a 5€ scope but no probe

For audio, and low freq a direct connection, just a BNC cable to clips, alligators, etc is high capacity but 1x

For fast signals in low Zo environment the benefits of a high Z 10x probe are minimum as the capacity prédominance

Suggest

Get the 1980s Tektronix book here

http://www.davmar.org/TE/TekConcepts/TekProbeCircuits.pdf

Check Zo probes

Bon courage

When I was a kid I bought a Tek 531a at a garage sale, it was ancient even back then. Took me about a year to save up for a probe, even the cheap ones were much more expensive than they are today, for that time I used a scrap of TV coax poked into the BNC. Far from ideal but it did work for low bandwidth stuff.
