I have a faulty Agilent HP 34401A 6.5 digit multimeter I'd like to sell. It was working fine a few months ago but now, when I power it up, the display illuminates all it's segments for a second then goes blank followed by a momentary beep. The only sign of life after that is the display shows "Shift" when that button is pressed.
Open to offers.

Kind of interested but unsure whether you're looking for 'almost working 34401A' offers or 'bricked testgear' offers.
I'm in the 'that would be fun to fiddle with' area.

Same here, don't need one enough to put down anything close to working-testgear money, but happy to take a punt if the price is right. Have you had a go at sorting it out yourself, or don't have time/the need to try and fix it? And is the display still in reasonable condition (i.e. still bright and even)?

Might be a simple repair. Sounds like it could be the cable between the mainboard and the display...

..... could be .....
Or it might not.

Yeah, seems there is a range of possible reasons for the issue, from a cable needing re-seating all the way to a dead un-obtainium custom gate array, hence my question about whether it has been worked on yet.

would be nice to have some photos or the serial number range, you will know if its the unobtanium vfd drivers or not ???

Or it might not.
Hence the "Might be" and "could be".

I have a working one which would make troubleshooting easier, but I'm also in the "would be fun to play with" area, meaning something two-digit if you would ship it to germany.
