WTB: Gould DSO 400 Oscilloscope - main Gate Array chip - CPU board - Full Unit

Hi

Looking to buy Gould DSO 400 digital oscilloscope parts. Specifically, I'm looking for the main gate array chip U24, a CPU board or full units that I can dismantle.

Willing to accept damaged CPU boards.

I am in Australia, but will consider postage for the board.

I recently repaired the NiCd battery backup leakage that is common on these and upon soldering in a new battery a small solder bridge across two newly exposed traces destroyed a transistor and the alphanumeric video output on U24 'Gate Array' chip on the CPU board. Bridged traces were +15v and alphanumeric video

Can vouch for Jose. The posties broke the scope, but what I really needed was the CPU board to get my existing one up so it all worked out.

You could tell they threw the package on the floor. The CRT became dislodged and the neck cracked. Upon power up all it did was arc internally.

Post office hrs being 9-5 meant I needed to wait to Friday to get it.

But, during the week I tidied the CPU board, swapped in the later versions of the ROMs, replaced the mains capacitors that exploded and poured stink everywhere (which obviously happened to you previously Jose) and its up and running. And I have a full chassis of spares.

The Rigol in the picture is one I was borrowing from a friend. But I think with the option of an old analogue scope, I actually prefer using this!

Also have the serial working so can make basic captures with it.

I like to cry thinking I took care of that instrument for more than 25years, and was destroyed for complete lack of care.
I pay extra for insurance, still having the receipt, I will claim at the post office.

I know. I was so disappointed when it showed up like that. I guess I have to say, Gould could have done more than just to glue the CRT in with silicone... But, it must have been dropped reasonably hard to dislodge it like that.

Very glad I still had my chassis because now the heart of your unit, or probably more accurately its brain, lives on. Complete with your circuit repairs! I intend to make good use of it for years going forward.

It's pretty cool to have the cover and the low voltage supply cable now. And the printed manuals!

I sell alot on ebay, and even do foreign shipping of very fragile items. In 10 years I've only lost two items due to damage (one was literally dropped in the water going to hawaii). As a suggestion for future packages, buy a sheet of 4'x8'x1" hard pink Styrofoam insulation and lots if tape, and layer it 2 to 3 layers thick on all sides, then cover in cardboard and some tape. I've had 100% success with this method.
