SOLD: Keysight DSOX3034A - will ship worldwide
« on: August 27, 2018, 02:31:34 am »
I have for sale an Agilent/Keysight DSOX3034A 350 MHz 4 channel oscilloscope. The scope has had no use and is as new. There aren't even any scratches on the probes sense rings.
It works perfect in all respects and has the newest Keysight firmware installed (v2.43).
No probes/accessories include.

*SOLD* or best offer plus shipping. I can ship globally via UPS. US/Canada shipping is 40-50 USD. For international I'd expect about $150 USD.
For US paypal for payment is fine.
For Canada a money transfer is preferred and I'd be happy to offer a discount to keep the scope in Canada.
For international I'd prefer a wire transfer.
Local pickup in Langley, BC Canada is always welcomed.

Any questions feel free to ask.

I have been watching Dave's channel for sometime now, and recently subscribe to the forum trying to buy this scope from Steve.

Being a zero-poster, I have been trying to see if I could contribute anything with my first post. Unfortunately my first post will be something least useful, but perhaps a lil help for future member who try to sell or buy something thru here.

I would like to express a displeasure towards Steve on this sale, below are the brief on what happened.

1. I approached Steve few days ago with a ridiculous offer due to budget constraint, which I knew it may not convince him.
2. Two days later, I was able to stretch the budget a lil bit further, and made him another offer which is closer to his expectation. After Negotiation, we had a deal, the scope is considered sold.
3. I have further asked Steve to provide me the packaging size and weigh to get the international freight quote which he replied me an extra day later as he told me he need more time to get the box size and weight.
4. We have reached the point where we deciding which payment method to go with, and he also promised to get a quote for shipping via UPS on coming Tuesday due to the holiday on coming Monday.
5. With all above going on, this Thread was not mark *SOLD*, and Gribo sent a PM to him today, and he decided to forgo our deal and sell to Gribo. Due to his preference to sell locally in Canada.

Very well noted in this thread that Steve prefer to sell locally (He did state clearly that will ship worldwide), I believe all negotiation and deal are sincere, and First Come First Serve should be in the spirit of any open trade especially on the internet, by expecting this deal to follow thru, I have ordered and paid for 4 new probes from Keysight since it didn't come with any, and now I am to keep the probes without the scope.

To Steve, this is a great disappointment, if you don't intend to ship outside Canada, do mention it clear. If you want to keep the deal open, don't waste your time in negotiating with me, just let me know you are not interested to sell. You are misleading your buyer and causing unnecessary problems for me.

I never aim to disappoint anyone, and am very sorry that in this case that I have. It certainly was not my intention. We did agree on a price with shipping handled by a carrier of your choice using your account. I got box dimensions and weight and passed the information along. At that point I was asked to look into alternative shipping and then asked about a different form of payment. At that point it gave me pause as the terms of the deal were changing. I had a secondary buyer who made a sale in less then 5 minutes including payment.

Whatever the reasons though I will accept the blame and I do apologize and am sorry I disappointed you.

edit - also ux.yong I tried to send you a PM but your inbox was full so I was unable to.

I’m with TheSteve on this one.

It’s not uncommon to get a potential buyer jump in quickly and then take days of haggling and trying to agree payment methods and shipping costs. It’s not sold until payment is received is my rule now.

I’ll sometimes mark a sale as ‘sold pending payment’ to try and speed the buyer along but I’ll use my discretion to decide if I should sell elsewhere at that point. A new member with a full inbox who isn’t offering a straightforward deal or a 5 minute deal with an established member... I’d do what TheSteve did.

Sorry guys, you both should know that newbies (<5 posts) can't receive PM's (maybe 1?) and this is the systems way of telling you that.

We know that, it’s happened often enough to us.

It’s just another layer of complication to a deal that sounded like it was dragging out longer than it should.

Particularly when parts of the deal start changing. Payment type, courier company etc...

It would make me very cautious as a seller

Well, First of all, I wasn't here to look for justice in anyway, am just sharing my experience, I didn't know Steve tried to wrote to me privately, as I wasn't aware that my inbox capacity was limited. Hence the previous public post replying to this thread was made.

I decided to reply to this once more since there seems to be judgement made to "newbie" credibility.

FYI, although we are on opposite timezone, my reply is always prompt, the only thing that have changed is "courier company", I thought to get Steve to check on UPS to see if its any cheaper, as the original service provider to me that collecting from Langley are TBC. Regarding payment method, Steve is requesting wire transfer as Paypal charge ridiculously for international transaction. So the risks are just as equal, being a newbie buying stuff is all upfront payment 100%, unless you tell me otherwise. Steve will only be at risk if he shipped without payment. So be fair to newbie, we are not taking any advantage here, while still bearing the risk for the upfront payment made.

So to all who have read our post and thought that you know the whole picture, don't judge. Leave it to Steve and myself, if there were any judgement about either of us, its among ourselves.

I do agree that seller have the ultimate power to decide who to sell to, its just me expressing my displeasure, not asking anyone to pick any side.

I believe both Steve and myself are trying to move on. I do apologies to Steve if this have caused any inconvenience or even trouble, its not like the end for both of us, who knows if Steve have other stuff for sale and we might came across another deal in the future. We learnt and it would probably be better than this time.

Cheers

If it's amongst yourselves then why did you post here publicly criticizing Steve?

I agree. I re-read it and it seems a bit more towards education than rant. However, as both parties made it clear, such transactions always carry risk and emotions run a bit high - especially because such big ticket items do not have as many reliable buyers

I've had my share of failed sales due to stalling and ever-changing terms of sale, but from the information provided I suspect it was a combination of miscommunication and anxiety to complete a sure sale of the item.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

FWIW.....

I periodically sell equipment and I am not a dealer. The first one to actually send money wins. Period. No further discussion. No apologies.

It is not worth fiddling with details, emails, DM's, or any elements of the deal changing. As a frequent buyer dealing with individuals, my expectation is similar so I try to be the 'easiest' option for the seller. If I am easy, I tend to get the best deal.

I agree, it's very useful information. And I'm glad that both TheSteve and ux.yong have mature and realistic attitudes about it. Thank you.  :)

Be sure to make this clear to your buyers. A casual verbal or written agreement can be legally binding, though it depends on the country. You don't want to up in a shitfest when someone pursues that and forces you to deliver a working unit.

For sure - it is possible that it can get messy. As a general rule - I communicate that the sale is final and I promise next to nothing. I do not accept responsibility for shipping damage, misunderstandings or anything other than what I know. I offer to send what I show in the pictures I took - it is up to the buyer to trust me or not. Some don't, some do which is understandable. For example, I have pushed off a buyer because they want the option to return. After a situation where I had a conflict with someone trying to return a very big/heavy Chroma DC load for some fiddly reason. It was fairly clear that it just wasn't what they wanted/expected so they were trying to make up anything to make me take it back. Inside of the eBay system, it is fairly straightforward. Direct sales need some well-worded emails at a minimum.

At this point - if you buy something from me I do my best to let you know that there is absolutely, positively zero possibility to return it. Even if I missed some flaw or limitation in the description. If I was a dealer, I would certainly take a different approach and charge accordingly more. It does not take long to learn that commercial sellers have to charge more money to cover the real world costs of being a dealer. If you buy from me, it is likely to be rather cheap in comparison, but 100% the risk of the buyer. Seems fair enough.
