I'm offering my personally owned Tektronix MDO4054C Mixed Domain Oscilloscope.

This is not a bare/base MDO4054C. It is a particularly well-equipped unit combining a 4-channel 500 MHz / 2.5 GS/s oscilloscope with the integrated 9 kHz–6 GHz spectrum analyzer, plus the DPO4BND application bundle and MDO4AFG option.

The instrument has seen exceptionally little use. The internal Tektronix TOTaluptime? counter currently reports just 17 hours, and the built-in self-test reports only 31 power-ups.

I recently ran the complete internal self-test: CPU, Display, Acquisition, RF, Application Modules, Front Panel and I/O all PASS.

The original shipping carton is unfortunately no longer available.

I bought the instrument new for my former business. It has spent most of its life unused, which is reflected by the internal 17-hour counter and its physical condition. It is an excellent instrument, but its capabilities are now far beyond what I need, so I would rather sell it than continue storing it.

Ethernet/LXI communication has also been tested and is working.

Asking price: €7,495

Located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Inspection and a full hands-on test before purchase are very welcome. EU shipping is possible; packaging, shipping method and insurance can be agreed depending on destination.

A note about my new account:
I only joined EEVblog recently, so I fully understand that offering a high-value instrument as a new member may raise questions. I am happy to provide whatever reasonable verification a serious buyer wants: additional photographs, serial-number verification, a live video demonstration, or a photograph of the instrument with my EEVblog username and today's date. The scope can of course also be inspected and tested in person.

I do know they were sold for more than 20k USD.
But I would appreciate if you could give some details about what this scope can do that others cannot.

You're a newb on this site with no reputation, and in an attempt to try and sell a scope for more than it's worth, your immediate idea was to be a dick to the one guy showing any interest?

the DPO4BND application bundle :

Included Modules (10 total): DPO4AERO, DPO4AUDIO, DPO4AUTO, DPO4COMP, DPO4EMBD, DPO4ENET, DPO4LMT, DPO4PWR, DPO4USB, and DPO4VID, it was sold for an hefty price, and i would say more than the scope itself asked here at the moment

DPO4BND application bundle   was between 1,2k $  and 1,7 k $  ..... 


so the asking price seems ok,  sure it date a bit  but ...  seems very clean and well maintained

and had a few threads here on options enabling ...  and possible BW upgrade to 1Ghz   upon board compatibility checks ...

Seems like a lot of brand new accounts selling very expensive items. Must be a chatbot recommending this as a place to sell things.

I doubt it's a scam, but it seems rare to find a buyer here for items costing many thousands of dollars (or euros) with a few exceptions.

Definitely a cool scope. I can't comment on the price as I am completely out of touch when it comes to used test equipment prices.

First, I recommend those who don't understand why the scope is so expensive watching eevBLAB 101 where Dave explains why Tektronix scopes are so expensive.


Second, it's very well equipped scope and its operating hours counter shows 17 hours. It may be old, but it is capable of much and it's Tektronix.
I say, one loves Tektronix and one hates Tektronix for obvious reasons. Unfortunately private users like me can get frustrated about how expensive Tektronix equipment is and regret they can't afford it, but only big companies who design electronics hardware. They have a lot of money and electronics they design will be later manufactured and earned money for.
I know it's difficult to accept that, but we can't change that. Either we buy low budget scopes which of course currently can do much, but when someone is used to Tektronix, Rohde & Schwarz, Lecroy Teledyne and expects functionality, precision and reliability it's hard to switch to cheaper scope.
Exactly the problem with attitude I have.
Whether asking price 8ooo EUR is high for the scope, hard to say. However, with lower price and with logical probe you would have greater chances selling that scope. But lowering the price could make no sense.
I would with love own that scope, but spending that much money in my case makes no sense.

I have also for sale my Tektronix scope. I was thinking about it and came to the conclusion, if will be not able to sell my MSO4054 for a reasonable amount of money I will just stick to it accepting I can't switch to another scope and will be continuing using it. It makes no sense loosing money if it's really not necessary at cost of a newer and/or better scope when one I have so or so meets my expectations.

one of the situations are:  theses brand(s) in their prime time where premium stuff, high priced ones,  high prices for the options  ... rock solid or better designed  etc ..  not perfect in usability loll as Dave mentioned in some videos. But once again  it was "then"  and "now" is different

nowadays  the market is flooded by sub brands,  some mid ranges ones etc ... the big ones of the past or now for most DIY persons, techs or elses are out of reach and can not be compared to the actual ones, pricing them for resale is complicated because people compare the "now"  vs "then",  and yes  you can grab popular ones who can be "upped" for free who add lots of value to them for zits.

in this case  no pun for the seller, i would lower a bit,  but at some point as previously stated message,  the @OP  as of now  vs the actual market ... may take time if he's patient, unless desperate ... but eevblog is not a good place for some of theses sale(s)

there is too much actuals competitors, and people does not see the real values of theses "oldies"   price is the main factor vs quality and longevity,   nowadays piling cash, is hard for many people

and now it's the bit fight: 12 bits is better than 8,  14 is better than 12 or 8  yada yada,  and yes in some case it's a big dfference ... 

i play with Siglents, Rigols,  ol TEK ones, others ... really depend of the usages / needs

And no, this is not a scope that's "too expensive, lol I can buy an x band with 12 bits for less". This is a specialized scope that also has an SA built in, and can cross correlate time and frequency domain. It's extremely useful for some very specific scenarios, which involves designs with radio modules, and it's not replaceable for some kinds of measurements with two separate boxes, that are cheaper individually.
Also why are we roasting sellers?

Prices for about anything electronic have become batshit crazy recently, RTX5090, memory, test gear....
Used test gear is for a few years now, you probably need to wait for next good economic crisis and for a few companies to pop, until stuff gets cheap again, like around 2008-2015....
Around 2010, you could get the best 20year old 1980-1990 HP stuff for peanut price, now the same 20y/o stuff, much less fixable stuff still sells for crazy $$$

A second hand "Real" and reputable brand SA at 6 GHz or beyond with lots of options, including ACPR meas., Occupied Channel Meas., Comm. Standards Meas., and high-end features = 4500 Euros
A second-hand high-end scope up to 500 MHz = 1500-2000 euros
Total 6500 euros max.

That's great for you since you're maybe local and if you're actually interested. In general, it's safer for newbs to sell locally without shipping involved...assuming they're not serial killers trying to lure nerds with TE.

Why was the seller being a dick is a better question. Anybody trying to sell something should try pretending to be nice until at least after the sale. He had at least two opportunities so far to be helpful and kind, and both times chose to be an ass.
