LFS: cheap pace compatible iron tips
« on: June 20, 2024, 06:36:12 pm »
I recently got a full Pace PPS-85A station for a great price. Came with a ton of desoldering tips but only 2 rough looking tips for the soldering iron. (Sensatemp II) These are pretty expensive ($75+ for 10 packs of pretty basic tips) so I'm looking for compatible offerings that aren't quite so expensive. Alternately, a source for basic "kits" with a few of the common/useful tips for hobbyists. I'd drop a C note for a kits with a dozen or so (doubles or triples of the most used)

Any leads?

A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

That is a pretty nice soldering station.
Plato makes good tips for many Brands:

I also bought nice Pace tips on e bay, that were advertised as Pace (had Pace Label on package) and came in a ten piece bag.....    I think $20 ??
Most practical tips are small and medium "chisel" or "screwdriver" tips.If buying on e bay or the like, make sure the diameter of the tip is correct for your handpiece.

A friend and I split the $50 for 3 stations in unknown condition. Turns out there was a PPS-85 and PPS-85A that worked fine. There's another single channel station that doesn't power up (haven't opened it up to see why). Also has a half dozen desolder attachment (3 seem to be working), 3 tweezer attachments, and 3 soldering attachment, all in working order. Fantastic deal!

Keep an eye on ebay and surplus electronic auctions. The PPS 85A station is likely a later model with snap-vac. Note there were two soldering handpieces, I'm not sure how common they were but the SP-1A took slightly smaller 1/8" diameter tips and I believe the SP-2A took 3/16" like the current PS-90. Pace made an adapter so you could run the smaller tips in the larger iron 1360-0083-P1.

Collecting all the Pace tips is a part time hobby for some. Perhaps if you get a bunch you don't need you could ask for trades.
