So am I .....
That could have been a dangerous sortie :scared:
-
ummm they have an office in Sydney.

Sure, but their warehouse and majority of their staff are in Melbourne. The warehouse clearance was being discussed here. They don't advertise a Sydney address, so it is probably just a single sales rep.
I wonder if anyone went, what was actually on offer, and if anyone fulfilled their TEA needs...

Yep, had one member I know went Sat, collected a few $1,000 of stuff. Open again Fri from ~ 10am all day. See you folks there :-)
:update:
Just returned today - all I can say is holly cr@p .. 1,000s items !! You need to register though for next visiting / auction days - just a couple pix
-
Thanks for the photos. As expected, a lot of boat anchors in a poor state of repair. I'm sure I could find some desirable stuff if I visited, like the Tek TM500 mainframes.
I see some lovely wooden box housed gear as well in that first photo, but unlikely to be of any practical use.
I don't imagine the new management will want to keep paying to store a lot of that stuff, let alone try fixing it.

Same ... but those photos comfort me in the knowledge I have saved time and money, rather than having missed out.

I've been trying to ignore this thread but I think I'll have to go take a look, I've been on the hunt for a couple bits and pieces lately
How has pricing been so far?

Oh-oh.
My spidey sense goes on high alert when I find myself in circumstances like that.... :scared:
-
It's OK, I've got more than enough bills to keep me well and truly grounded when I'm hunting for equipment ;D

There were only 2 days that people could attend so far, as they were sorting and stacking it all into categories. It is (was) a mess, and even though I saw many
items that I/we were looking for, decided to wait until it is all sorted. My mate did buy a few $1,000 of stuff, app 10% +/- of retail value.
You need to be placed on a "list" ,where you will be updated on coming viewing / purchase days.
To do so, ring Jordon (or Michael) on 0419 591573 The warehouse is in Osbourne Ave, Clayton South 3169 Mention EEVBlog if asked
They may be doing an ad on the last (?) auction day .. tbc

I imagine they will auction stuff by the pallet load. There is no way they could justify the cost of cleaning, repair, testing, calibrating gear that was in vogue 20-40+ years ago, and then find buyers for any sort of decent money.
A couple of decades ago I used to occasionally browse the warehouse at lunchtime, at the invitation of Bernie. Picked up a few good HP & Fluke pieces which I now no longer use.

From what I / we were told - many pieces will be sorted into function .. ie P/Supplies / generators / analysers / cro's etc etc
Expensive? / good condition stuff in a separate room / etc and faulty / odds and ends also in piles
After 1-2? purchase runs, it will be auctioned off in bulk / e-wasted
They are away this / next? week, so no word until end of next week

I'm both sad and relieved that this is so far away from me.
I have been looking for a cheap HP 8350B plugin to test my 8350B before working too much on it.
And those folks seem to have pallets of both plugins and 8350B's.

Well, when I go in next, happy to look out for them. Who knows, if they're not sold / or go very cheap, maybe I'll grab a pallet load for you :-)

Someone showed me a video of this at the Electronex show. All of it did look like boat anchor stuff, and just rows and rows of massive shelving.
I also think they will have to sell this off by the pallet load and/or e-waste it, way too much stuff for onesies.
-
Is it still going? I tried getting in contact at one point but didn't have any luck and then kind of forgot about it

I think you're right on the money there. :-+

Word is next sales days are:
Saturday 27/6 & Sunday 28/6 from 9.00am – 1.00pm

Definitely ... BUT there were many items that were absolutely worth watching out for. My mate bought a few $1000 worth at the first of only 2 "open days".
I found SEVERAL items that I / Friends asked me to look out for .. and a quick ask showed bargain prices. I didn't grab anything, as you said,
there many 100s items stacked on top of each other and it would've taken hours to sort through.
Their plan is to stack ALL similar types neatly and easily compared, and yes, many pallet loads of e-waste'ables.
The only main event is approx on the dates you mentioned. TBC

Glad I'm in Sydney ... otherwise I probably would come away with less money and a bigger storage headache :P
I expect to see a flood of overpriced crap on Ebay soon !
-
This appears to be the wrong address and that is the website of the business that's been sold and is being used by another group.
The address of the sale is 231 Osborne Avenue, Clayton South.
Open on Saturday & Sunday, 9am - 1pm.
Its the "old MacService group"
There is no auction, it's a garage sale.

UH OH ! Got an email from them yesterday -- Cash payment for goods on the day !!! --
Hopefully it means - they will hold it until you rush to an ATM ?? Sure don't want to be bringing $1,000s(??) cash with me in case I need it etc.
Is this normal? Options?
-
There are ATMs at the Clayton Rd shopping strip a couple of minutes up from Osborne Ave.
I’ve already withdrawn limited cash to reduce the urge to buy stuff that in reality will likely become a burden.
I intend to arrive about 930-1000. It will be interesting to see how they do pricing & the behaviour of buyers. I expect it will be somewhat chaotic.
-
Would be cool if someone could get some video for posterity.

Update: Seems PayID is fine - can do direct transfer from mobile app
I can record some video (phone), hopefully it won't be a melee :-)

Dropped in for 2 hours. The Flickr photos posted by Dave show most of what was on offer today, from about 10 palettes of junk right through the gamut of test gear up to old hp microwave ca. AUD $1000, with no assurance of full working order. Most items over $50 have prices on them. Interesting variety of decade boxes and very old metrology pieces.
I think they are currently generally trying for market value & what some folks might pay, but very few real bargains overall for name brands. The experience was pretty laid back. Maybe 50 ppl there. Chatted to Bernie’s son.

Did get some video (phone). Main one is quite large so need to cut it up or lower the resolution etc
As gbadd mentioned, wasn't as hopeful as expected - not able to test anything to check if working ok. I didn't end up with what I was looking for.
One more day Sunday, and maybe one next week or so, then off to auctions !! ... then e-waste
