It will heat-up from cold in around 5sec, has replaceable cartridges and very fast recovery.

I have been using it for a couple of months and I am happy with it - especially at that price.

Here "Quick 202D" is quite popular - http://www.quick-global.com (also known as Madell QK202D, LRP QK202D or SMTmax QK202D brand).

90W, tips contain built in temperature sensors (better measurements), heating is done by electromagnetic element (400kHz current causes material to heat and then that heats the tip) and more.

No idea why it's so rare outside.

I live in the Netherlands. I too wanted a Hakko FX-888 but you could not get one overhere either. So I bought myself a Aoyue. Not too happy with it because it started giving problems after only two months.

NOW I see there is someone in Holland who sells Hakko FX-888: http://www.hakkosoldeerstations.nl. They are € 135. Still a bit expensive but about the same as Dancap in the UK. I don't know if they ship outside the Netherlands. If it is the real deal they will probably have the same aggreement with Hakko. But maybe, if you know someone in Holland who can get it for you ...

I figured out that the price difference with the US is partly due to the scarecity in Europe and partly because in the US they only have a low sales tax and no VAT  :'(
