Tek 465 potentiometer 311-1430-00
« on: June 06, 2021, 11:37:12 am »
Greeting everyone. The horizontal control on my Tektronix 465 is busted. It's part number 311-1430-00; Bourns calls 82C2AK32BA0005. The weaker shaft is completely free and can be pulled out ... Repair is out of the question. Does anyone have this potentiometer that could sell me? It can easily be used. Please!

Which horizontal control? Shift, sweep, trigger, level etc.

The number means nothing, no manual, but might be similar parts in other scopes.

Photo?

Repair is not possible? Unless you can find a parts unit in your locality, you will have to remove the 4 rivets and somehow repair it. Once you remove the rivets, you will get the idea on what/how to do a possible repair. If the carbon track is in good shape, you should be able to get it going.

Thank you all for your effort and willingness to help! The potentiometer is used for horizontal movement of the track, it has a value of 5 + 50k. The inner weaker shaft is completely free, it rotates around and can be pushed all the way into the outer one .... I keep the attempt at repair as a last resort, it doesn't seem repairable to me.

Have you dismantled it? If so, post some pictures so we can give you some ideas.

The 5k/50k seems to be the tricky bit. The 7000 scopes use similar but they are mostly 5k or 10k.

Both the mainframes and plug ins use the dual concentric pots, timebases, intensity and similar.

Whether you can dismantle your pot to replace the busted part from another who knows.

From what I gather, it is the center shaft that is loose. That is the shaft that controls the "rear" part of the pot and you should be able to see why it has come loose from the viper and fix it. From the pictures it seems to have 4 rivets. Once they are drilled/filed out, it should be an easy job.

Edit: Can you show a picture of the inner end of the shaft that has come loose?

The impossible has become a deed. I disassembled the potentiometer, there was a torn shaft in it from the zinc carrier of the runner ... I managed to straighten it and glue it. The potentiometer is like new, both visually and functionally! I will add photos.
