Wanted: Fluke 87 (or 85 or 83) Gasket please...
« on: May 18, 2022, 09:49:54 pm »
Greetings...from the UK

I am looking for a gasket for the Fluke 87 please?

I have had a look round but seems these are not easy to find!

I wondered if anyone was able to supply a suitable gasket for the Fluke 87 (original first series) please.

Perhaps the gaskets are the same for the later 80 series, 83 and 87, series III and series V, and also the 88 series.

Maybe there is something you have in a box of bits, maybe salvage from a blown or otherwise destroyed meter??

Please let me know if you have something available that will fit.

Thanks

Are  you referring to the input jack o-ring, Fluke p/n 831933?   That seems to be the same for all the 80-series and has a Parker number of 5-143-N1472-70.  That appears to be a standard 5-143 o-ring in some sort of neoprene of durometer (hardness) 70.

A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

Hi

Thanks...

No - not the gasket for the input jack assenbly.

The gasket I want is the main body gasket, the one between the two case halves..

I guess that it is a basic H section (on its side), it is the gasket that keeps the dust out...

For the Fluke 87 it is a part number 819250, but this is a part code that includes the case bottom.

Usually the gasket is fixed to the casse bottom, and when replacing the battery, stays attached to the case bottom.
Of course the later 80 series has a battery compartment, and the case would not be taken apart.

See the illustration:

I found the part number:

H2 - Gasket, Case - Fluke Part Number 826198

Thanks

Yes, I found the same p/n, but 3 out of 4 manuals don't show it so there must have been a manufacturing change.  I've not seen, or at least noticed, that part separately.  Even if you could round up that p/n, I'm not sure it would fit the design that doesn't have it a separate part.  Seems to be unobtanium.  Perhaps it could be 3D printed with TPU?

Hi

Thanks...

Yes, I saw the same thing.

The gasket was supposed to stay fixed on the bottom case (pressed on I guess, the moulding has a key on the bottom case, the top case is plain, to give some grip) but maybe the grip was not enough, and a factory fix was put in place.

However I have seen examples where the gasket is missing on a 80 series meter, so I do not think the factory fix was very foolproof and failed. I think the gasket would fit through the 80 series, even after the battery door was fitted, as always the case had to be separated for fuse replacement.

I do not have the access to a printed solution, and cannot generate the codes to send away for printing.

I am appealing for a donor case or a retrieved gasket...

Anyone...?

Thanks

Another appeal...

Has anyone a donor Fluke (cheap) or a case bottom, or a suitable retrieved gasket please...

Thanks

Ah, no, never found one so far, still on the lookout...

Thought about a donor Fluke unit, but they sell for silly money on ebay so again, I am still looking, (and the trashed ones never seem to have the gasket).

Thanks for asking.
