Where to buy Genuine Fluke Multimeter?
« on: August 17, 2015, 07:11:59 pm »
I welcome everyone who is interested in this particular topic and would like to share your genuine thoughts & views!! As the subject line is crystal clear about the topic, so, anyone who knows where to buy Genuine Fluke Multimeter?  :-//

Fluke multimeters  :-DMM are considered the world class quality multimeters with great precision readings, high accuracy, high reliability blah! blah! blah! :blah: :blah:

I'm very much interested in buying Fluke 87V & Fluke 289/FVF, but, much cripple in stepping in as it cost some GOOD $$$. Hence, very choosy and particular about the freshness, genuineness and...

Certainly, some parameters to consider.. atleast a retail buyer like me would love to have a few criterion like:
1. USA made
2. Factory sealed (if anyone can cast more light on how it looks whether it is factory sealed or not, would be greatly appreciated)
3. Certainly Brand New and no refurbished/reconditioned

If anyone can put up the online link, or AUTHORIZED dealer's address, it would be a great aid to the buyer like me in the process of buying a Brand which is ruling the market for many decades...

Is the Fluke 'where to buy' link any use?
http://www.fluke.com/fluke/inen/wheretobuy
Or are you looking to buy from another country?

If you want made in USA, avoid all the Fluke models that end with the "C" suffix.  See

Yeah! you caught me right! I'm looking to buy from another country as in my region they are selling China make Fluke due to cost effectiveness. Also, so far I got the information Fluke authorised dealers in US are not authorised to sell outside USA. If you know any site, pl furnish..

Thanks! A new info on the subject.

"Right from Fluke's India website

In India, if some one or an institution or similar bodies buy bulk Fluke meters, they get US made bulk or else for any retail purchase, one must be sure to get China make (catch me if I'm wrong!) ones only

Here is a link for "Review: Fluke 17B, Chinese and New International version" if anyone is interested. It has even got tear down review..

I would recommend TEquipment.net, they currently have it on sale (it's not really a sale, it cost the same most other places): http://www.tequipment.net/FlukeDigital87VMultimeter.html?v=0

They ship internationally, there's also a 6% off code for eevbloggers, I can send it to you if you're interested.

Yes, perhaps I included the word 'claim to sell factory sealed Fluke 87 V. ' I'm not sure whether the claim is legitimate or not? Hence, put up in the forum!

Dear retiredcaps, from Fluke's India we are not able to see the list of US authorised seller. They re-direct the page to contact us form. From there, a local Indian representative takes up the deal and finishes by sending China make Fluke.. (Three friends of mine have received by now)
It would be kind aid if you can send us the US based authorised dealer name/s OR online link/s so, that if we can find any dealer who can directly sell the item to us! PFA. You can use Screen shots if you wish to (for those who don't know, press key "PrtSc" and save in MS Paint or similar)

There is no such thing a non-genuine Fluke.
There have never been and fakes or exact clones.

For international purchases, the easiest but rarely the cheaper way, is through element14.com; at least it will be an authorized distributor and you can use their database to see what is restricted or not.
IIRC you can check on the descriptor page where the unit you are buying is made.

Dave,

Since you have so many reviews to date on various meters and topics, someone , somewhere has brought to my notice that Keysight 1272A is preferable to Fluke 87-V in terms of functionality, durability, blah, blah.. provided I don't care even 0% about ergonomics. The rhyme or reasons behind, the person highlighted it as import restrictions and duties as I live in India on Fluke meters! Now, seeking your honest recommendations on the subject of accuracy and precision reading on both Keysight & Fluke respective models...
I'm very particular about accuracy and life expectancy! least bother about anything else if accuracy and life expectancy (also means drift from factory settings) is maintained for atleast 10~15yrs . I may visit US if Fluke dominates better to get one...

One International US based Fluke's authorised dealer I found as element14.com, also posted by saturation!

I personally have the U1272A and the U1253B. The U1272A has its quirks, among them is a slow audible continuity (the visual one is much much faster) and tedious menu system. On the plus side it has µA, datalogging with 10,000 values, LowZ voltage measurement, auto hold/trigger which is good, AC+DC measurement, and dual display.

Here are the screenshots of the online dealers as listed by Fluke USA on Aug 18, 2015.  If you do buy outside your country, ask how warranty services apply to you in India.

BTW, you might want to read this thread where another Indian member dealt with Fluke India.

For some strange reason, the same sellers ALSO have the 87

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221835365488

http://www.ebay.com/itm/371054776231
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370994482250

but with the prices.. which is the better buy, 289 or 87.. hmmmmm

Personally, I would ask TopLoser og KJDS if they have any lurking around.. but that's just me..

Its impressive on Fluke's part that this meter's price continues to rise whereas Keysight meters aren't even listed on Amazon anymore.

FWIW there is a sale on Keysight HH, buy 2 get a 3rd like HH "free", that's effectively a 33% discount on a bulk purchase.  What I find amazing is that's not posted anywhere, even on its largest worldwide distributor, Element14.com.

E.g. if 3 folks want a 1272a at ~$400 each, tax included, then $800/3 that's $267 per meter.

http://www.keysight.com/en/pc-1000004008%3Aepsg%3Apgr/digital-multimeter-dmm?pm=SC&nid=-34618.0&cc=US&lc=eng

There's nothing wrong with just getting one off eBay:
Sellers are on ebay are highly unlikely to be Fluke authorized dealers despite what they write in their ebay description.

Yes, the Keysight U1272A beats the pants off the Fluke in almost every respect. If I could only have one meter out of those two it would be the Keysight.

Quote
I'm very particular about accuracy and life expectancy!

In that case the Fluke has the proven industry history. It has earned it's reputation. The U1272A does not have the same history.
I'd still rather have the U1272A though.

That's not a clone, it's an original model 87.
I'll say again, I have never seen any credible evidence there has ever been a Fluke 87 clone in 25+(?) years it's been on the market.

Hi
I am from Australia and like India we cant buy Fluke direct from Tequipment.NET.

I got around the distributor agreement by using a forwarding house and buy using a US address. I used comGateway but there are many others.
It was heaps cheaper than if I had gone to an Australian dealer.
But one downside is what to do if you need warranty.

You have to eat it. That's the risk of not buying from a local dealer.

There is at least one reputable dealer in Australia who will sell imported Flukes under the table  ;) and will honor the local warranty themselves.
They sell Flukes cheaper than the official Fluke Australia agents who have to pay Fluke's hugely inflated local markup.

AU$925 + gst. (~US$680) at this place. a lot of places wont give a price as they probably not holding stock or are ashamed of their prices.

vs TE.net US$539. so it slips under the AU$1000 gst threshold.

goto include freight too. as freight forwarding is very far from free.

so in this case I would go with the Australian dealer. Wasn't the case a few years ago.

Fluke have lowered their Oz dealer markup in recent years, so it has gotten better. Still not great though.
Used to be the same thing for Rigol too. I can remember when a Rigol in Oz cost twice that as the US (even factoring conversion)

I with no experience on the subject of counterfeit Fluke would not like to comment much...

Having had that seen in the link https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/fluke-clone/ used the word 'Genuine' in the subject line of current forum of discussion. Hence, counting on 25+ yrs. wisdom of Dave in the industry, I leave to the choice of buyer about their decision...
Contemporarily encouraging everyone or anyone who even accidentally visit to this forum of mine and have had sufficient evidence of proving the subject of clone or counterfeit FLUKE, please bring it to light...

Your effort will be greatly appreciated by all the viewers, specially the ones who is making a choice to buy Fluke meter/s!

"I got around the distributor agreement by using a forwarding house and buy using a US address. I used comGateway but there are many others."

Thanks for your value added post! I know, there are many like me who doesn't know about it. It can be a great solution..
For link: http://www.comgateway.com/

If you can kindly put up some more sites!!

"But one downside is what to do if you need warranty."

Yea, that's a big ISSUE! But, if one can use it in bench top and not rugged environment or be very careful about their handling specially with correct reading procedure/s, it can survive for years. Fluke has a former reputation of a few decades of sustainability!!
In case, anything goes wrong during warranty period, one should be ready to spend some GOOD $$$ for servicing. Atleast, I suppose, considering the fact that they spent quite less at the time of initial buy (like using .comgateway), had they really bought from respective dealer/s!!

INDIA price for brand new: 87-v: Rs. 34,500
                                           289: Rs. 82,500 (=approx. $1213.00 W/taxes  @ current 1 USD= approx. Rs. 68)
Now, if I can get 289 with say $699 ++Taxes + comgateway charges, say $900 max. that is far better choice than $1213 ($1213-900=$313)

What everyone reckons?

Thanks to all my viewers/visitors, and to all your value added contributions for bringing out some hidden facts & figures to light!!

Now, that we have seen placing one Fluke meter on our workbench is not a hard cup of tea, though getting warranty can be an issue if sourcing is made elsewhere and not from local Fluke distributor, I therefore, would like to lead the forum to hit a new topic : https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/%27professional-multimeter-on-table-top%27/msg735449/#msg735449

I hope this forum is of some help to someone who was in dark before reading this!!

Let me be crystal clear, I and Excavatoree, said in the other thread, there are NO counterfeit Fluke multimeters.  Excavatoree explained how that Fluke was missing its brand name on the front.

Some people, like myself, modemhead, Excavatoree and others, buy broken meters might mix and match parts to make something work because the Fluke 80 series is quite modular, but there are no counterfeit Fluke meters.

First of all thanks for your suggestion. I appreciate it!

"why dont you get the agilent? 1253B"

Pl correct me if anything.., Dave has brought out some downsides of Agilent U1253A. One of the issues like battery support :scared: I don't know whether it was rectified in "B" series..??
Hence, I'm not making this a choice. But, I must consider now, let me see whether Dave has put up that review or not?

Just gonna park this URL here with the suggestion that you look at the 87V/EV2 "Industrial True RMS Multimeter Combo Kit" kit, which Amazon will happily send abroad, unlike the bare 87V. (I know this first-hand.)

You can thank me later. ;)

Precisely. Even with express shipping and all, it came out about $200 cheaper than buying here in Switzerland. (And believe it or not, when I got mine, I actually got a defective Fluke -- it had a crack on the plastic shroud of one of the jacks. Amazon overnighted me a replacement and refunded the shipping cost to mail them back the defective one!!!)

From the link you furnished:-
"Customer return, all as new. Everthing looks unused - apart from the box which looks like UPS played football with it."

Some may consider:
Who knows the original parts were tampered or not?
Are they refurbished/ reconditioned...?
is it in line with the Fluke's factory settings....?
Have we account for tolerances % of the components inside?
USED. But, price is 59%+VAT

"Nice set, lifetime warranty on the meter so no worries ever."
Issuing body??

Pl look! I'm neither encouraging nor discouraging anyone to buy. It is just a consideration one can raise....

Buying is absolutely in sole discretion!

Too late for you then,

BTW TopLoser is backed by a lot of happy customers here at the EEVblog and knows what he is selling and you can take his word for what he states.

" it had a crack on the plastic shroud of one of the jacks. Amazon overnighted me a replacement and refunded the shipping cost to mail them back the defective one!!!)"

GOOD after sale support  :-+

Yup. Amazon's corporate culture may be insane, but their customer service is pretty much perfect.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TKPRFO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

Just gonna park this URL here with the suggestion that you look at the 87V/EV2 "Industrial True RMS Multimeter Combo Kit" kit, which Amazon will happily send abroad, unlike the bare 87V. (I know this first-hand.)

You can thank me later. ;)

Curses!!! Amazon no longer ships this item abroad, and the price has gone up on it massively. (I paid $400 for it in February before shipping, now it's $540!!!  :wtf:  :o )
