WTB: Tektronix 5CT1N Curve Tracer Module
« on: February 10, 2024, 12:41:57 pm »
I'm looking for a reasonably priced curve tracer module, either in working or non-working condition. Please PM me if you have one for sale.

5CT1 and 7CT1 very rare, usually $400..800

Not  very practical as contr4old crowded, ranges limited.

If you have space, better to get a complete 576/577 CT.

It is more practical than a 577 for me, because even a complete 53xxN mainframe is smaller (shorter) than a 577. It woulde be great for fast check of small signal transistors, under $400 for sure... The price range you mentioned is almost the same as in the case of a 577...

Yes the 5/7CT1 are good in your situation.

Beware that tek 5000 scopes are much lesss desirable than the 7000 series.

For simple tests, a DIY CT is easy to make.

In EU the fine German and French Hameg analog scopes had a basic CT function wiht a 3V AC and V/I no changeable scales.

Used it on my HM103, HM203 and HM204 Hameg scopes many time to check diodes and transistors for GO/NOGO.

Just a LV transformer , a few resistors and XY scope can do it.

Bon chance

Tek 5000 is fine for audio range, and it has better (bigger & sharper) display than 7000 series. It is also fine for 5CT1N, just for seing standard curves with calibrated graticule.

Hameg CT function is nice, but it is very limited. I also have a Heath CT, but it needs an additional o'scope as a display, therefore it is not very convenient if you have no dedicated space for it on the bench.

(I'd found the Tek 577 more practical if it was built as a standard 19" unit...)

Nevada, ACK re 5000, some TEK 700 have similar large CRT, similar to 576 and 577.

In decades we found the 5000 scopes less robust and generally much lower quality than the 7000.

Enjoy!

It's okay, I'm open to 7000 mainframes also, I won't resist if I get a good deal.:) I have no decent knowledge about the differences (like stability or built quality), I just find the 5000 series very handy (changable modules, good picture) comparing to their price.

I have a 5CT1A as well as 3? 7CT1A at least superficial verification of functionality was performed prior to being put into storage in 2002 I would have to retest it .

Contact me if you have any interest
