WTB: Help needed acquiring part from US
« on: March 31, 2013, 11:52:10 pm »
Trying to fix an 80's model CD Player - have tracked down the direct drive circuit board needed at a US repair shop but they don't ship to Australia  :-- . They have online ordering, part is $US20. Anyone able to assist?
Cheers, Chris

There are a number of services that allow redirect USA products from a USA shipping address to Australia.

http://www.priceusa.com.au/ is pretty good.

They work differently to the others. They actually buy the item, and you pay priceusa for the item + shipping to Australia.

For most of the other redirecting services, you buy the item in the USA and ship to the services USA address. You then pay a a price for the item to be shipped from the USA receiving address to Australia.

I have only redirected from the US a handful of times, so I do not have experience of most of the services.

All I can say is that the Singapore Post-run VPOST is pretty bad. You eventually get the item, but their website is incompetent and they have no idea where the parcels are, in spite of their tracking. I have used them about 3 times, and I have probably spent a total of 4 hours on the phone to Singapore trying to work out what is going on.

Thanks for the info Amspire,
I have looked a bit into redirection before but the whole process seems like a disaster waiting to happen.
PriceUSA concept appears to be a more coherent solution.
Did you mean to say that you have had positive experiences using them?

I haven't used them yet, but I have had excellent reports from several others who had used it repeatedly. Last time I heard, they were easy to contact if there is a problem.

I am prepared to bet that this is the only package redirector service that has a public forum.

The biggest catch is since the agent in the US places the order, then if there is a problem with the goods from the supplier, you have to follow it up through PriceUSA. The original seller in the US will not have a clue who you are and will have no record of any sale to you - only to PriceUSA.

If there is something like a warranty issue at stake, one of the alternative mail redirector services may be a better solution.

Good point regarding redirector vs agent purchase. As you said, warranty critical purchases would be best through redirection and perhaps for lower risk or lower value items worth risking then agent purchase would be way to go.
Thanks for the feedback!
