What I'm trying to ask is how to put the uploaded or attached picture in the middle of a post rather than lump altogether and positioned at the bottom of the post.

I believe most will agree with me that a picture that positioned near to it's description/note/explanation from the author is the best right ? Its way better than the reader had to scroll up & down to read and to expand the attached picture at the bottom. Its quite annoying especially for a picture with highly packed information but with complex long note or explanation.

Already read the help section at the posting and currently as I'm aware of,  that the only way to do it like the below example is by using an external image hosting site, and put the image link here using the img bbcode.  The major disadvantage is once these external hosting site went down or gone (its norm nowdays), especially those freeloader image hosting sites, the precious information posted here will be lost forever.

Imagine one day in the future you want to check say a picture of a really rare product detail teardown of a board that you remember you've seen it here, say you suspect you have a bad pcb revision of your recently acquired gadget that already cost you arm & leg, but alas,  the posted images are gone while the author also can't be contacted or no longer active in this forum.  :'(

Important announcement, this thing below is called a resistor !  ;D

C'mon, this is nice right ?

Dave, maybe you should ask Simple Machines if this is possible ?

[ASK]How to embed the "uploaded/attached" pic in the middle of posting ?

Here's how I do I do it. I upload all of my pictures to photobucket(although I am sure other places like flickr and picasa would work). Then photobucket let's me copy an 'img' code. Paste that entire code into your post. The img code starts and ends with something like . Then your pictures will be embedded like you want. I usually hit the preview button before posting just to confirm it worked.

Note: NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER delete the pictures off of photobucket(or whatever other service) once you have used then in a post. There's nothing worse than reading an older thread and all of the pictures are gone.

What I'm try to ask is how to put the uploaded or attached picture in the middle of a post rather than lump altogether and positioned at the bottom of the post.

Last time I felt the urge I added them as an attachment and posted. Then I went back, looked at which URLs the attachments ended up and then added IMG tags in the text.

Here is an image I randomly picked from another posting's attachment:

(because I am to lazy to add an own attachment to this posting)

No need for that shit like photobucket or other image hosting sites if you just want your images inline.

Posting the image as an attachment then adding the image tags afterwards works but you need to be logged in to see the picture.

Never say never Joshua !  ;)

What if someday photobucket decided to change their policy and your pictures storage quota turned into half of you current usage ? And say you missed their announcement and they started to delete "automatically" half of your pictures collection in there ?  Or in the panic you deleted some of the pics that you're not aware that they're posted/linked here ? :'(

My point is to have all pictures stored inside this forum, this way all the valuable pictures will be still here as long this web site still exist, and I believe it will for very long time in the future.  ;)

Or you end up like https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=4205.msg55576;topicseen#msg55576 I don't think olsenn knows his second image, hosted on some stupid image hosting side, now comes with "adult image hosting" advertising.

Hmmm ... never thought of using this technique !! Thanks alot !   ;D

Though its kinda weird and awkward don't you think ?  ???

Test ..

Yay... it works !!

Still, I believe there must be a way to do this without going through this hassle of submtting the post, then peek at the link and re-edit the post with the new link.

No big deal if its just 1 or 2 pics, but 10 or 20 pics like in a tear down with long note for each picture, this will become quite annoying.  :-\

Ha..ha.. that is one good example there ! Just hope that hosting site won't change or alter those pics into "adult rated sample pics".  ;D

Thanks for pointing that out !

I remember a troll on another forum doing that. He hosted all the images he posted on his own server then changed them to porn after he was banned.

I have not tried it yet, but perhaps you can use the Preview facility to get the link before submitting the post?

No, thats not possible, the uploaded image's link won't show up until you submitted your post, and copy the link then re-edit again.  :-\

Not sure, maybe Dave missed a toggle in this website program to show it at the preview mode.

Sorry, there is no ability in SMF to do this that I am aware of, apart from the edit later principle.
The forum does have gallery capability, but it's no different to having your own website or Flickr etc, you have to upload photos there first and then embed the code later.

UPDATE: I found a plugin that looks like it does it:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2481
Will install now...

So much for that:
"The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."

Just found another good example why hosting images externally is bad, just look at the 1st post, all valuable images are gone :'( , hopefully the owner willing to re-upload the images here.  -> https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3098.0

The gallery capability could work OK. It would mean the images are hosted with the forum and not on an external site, so there is less chance of the images disappearing due to external events.

Quoted for truth.

Ever heard of the popular fee hosting web sites called "geocities", I bet lots of us still have few or at least one bookmarked link that was hosted at that site, and see what happened now, its gone.  :'(
