There's an item Farnell.... ooops.... Element14 sell here in Australia for $38. I see they sell the same item via Newark for $17.

I recall something years ago where Farnell would get Newark gear in at no extra cost - is this still the case?

Anyone here in Australia bought from Newark directly?

Cheers.

I think we in Australia have to expect things to be very expensive from larger component suppliers. Freight and high labour costs in Australia are the main culprit.

I don't mind paying a little more though because I have found Element14 to have a very quick delivery time on most stuff.

Sure, I don't mind paying a bit more, I'd even wait longer. Over double the price seems a bit over the top.

On the bright side, at least these companies are now allowing low volume purchases.

You guys know that you can ask E14 and RS for a quote right?

Simply tell them what you want and a target price (on the screen form) and they'll quote you.  It can take a day to process though.

I've had some very good pricing come back at times - cheaper than Digikey / Mouser.  Other times not so good, but still cheaper than the web price.

Obviously it's not practical for when you just need to order a few bits and pieces.

Familiar.. but we in Canada have been forced to expect things to be very expensive from any US company who sets its foot down just over the worlds longest unguarded boarder. Price difference? Sometimes I just wish the bullying would stop and two nation's would become "The North American Union"

I get special prices for stuff from Element14 regularly.  Just ask, can't hurt.
