From email.
Hi Ed,
We are emailing to let you know that Vodafone has merged with TPG Telecom to create a new leading telecommunications company. For the first time, Australia has a third full-service telecommunications provider that delivers more choice and value for customers.
Why have we merged with TPG Telecom?
Joining forces brings together our broadband and mobile networks and strengthens our ability to invest in next-generation technologies such as 5G. We now also have a larger team of experts, who can design and deliver you the latest product and service innovations.
What does it mean for Vodafone?
We are still Vodafone, and nothing will change for our brand, products or services. We will continue to operate as Vodafone, our contact details will remain the same and your plan details will not change. The only change is to our company name. Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited has changed its name to TPG Telecom Limited and we are now listed on the ASX.
What does it mean for you?
You won’t notice any difference day-to-day, and the same applies for TPG customers too. We will continue to serve and support you in the usual ways – in-store, via the Vodafone website or My Vodafone app or over the phone on 1555.

My 2 cents.
Are any of you shareholders and surprised at this sudden announcement?

There's some relevant reading and discussion on Whirlpool (a popular Australian telecomms forum):

The shareholders overwhelming approved back on Jun 24. So this is not news. However ordinary share trading will commence tomorrow.

I am a SH via a managed fund. So you can imagine my surprise. ;)

Well I guess you delegated management to them. My fund doesn't tell me all the trading they do but I suppose I could opt to be notified, dunno.

;D
But do you really want to be notified? Talk to CBUS. A bit of panic and throw in a little relaxation of legislation and boom! Falling knife.

Exactly. I don't because it's their job.
