| [English] Antonym for prime as a verb |
| (1/1) |
| blueskull:
As the title suggests, what is the antonym of prime as a verb? I did try to look up online, not to find an appropriate one. Use case: Prime the laser by enabling its master oscillator (aka seed laser). I want something like: ___ the laser by disabling its master oscillator (aka seed laser). Any suggestions on what should I put in the blank? |
| helius:
Not "composite"? A common pair of verbs is "arm/disarm". But priming for lasers may be not the same as this. Perhaps the word could be "quench"? |
| ataradov:
"Inhibit" probably. |
| sleemanj:
Inhibit, discharge, deactivate, drain, clear, disable, reset... There is no direct opposite for "prime" in the sense of "preparing something for something else to be done", it can mean different things in the forward direction let alone the reverse. |
