It's always been a point of 'embarrassment' to the civilized world, how 'Hitler' may be the
very 1st thing that prospective 'Aliens' see, after the broadcast at the 1936 Berlin Olympics !!

Don't worry, by the time they get close they'll have been force fed decades of accelerated Australian soaps and general 'reality' TV shows! They'll have plenty of time to confirm their initial impression and veer off  to go somewhere more civilized instead.  ;)

Edit: I, of course, failed to mention our history of wars, famine, strife, double dealing and ecological vandalism since those first broadcasts. Any 'Aliens' that still want to make themselves known to us after viewing that little lot, we really don't want to meet!

Carnivorous/Omnivorous aliens will have their own tragic past due to their development. You dont become sentient and gain empathy in an eye-blink, thats just not how evolution works.

Ok 'Gyro' and 'Echo88'.  :)
I'm an 'Aussie', but I have NEVER watched ANY of 'our' Soaps, EVER   8)
I preferred all the 'pommie'  ones, like Coronation St, and 'HeartBeat'  ;D
Maybe the 'Aliens' didn't like any of them either...  ;)

Seriously though, I never meant to attack 'Germans' though, as many of my friends
are German, and are a long way removed from their 'past'. I was obviously referencing
'Hitler', (who was actually an Austrian though I'm not denigrating them either!).
And making 'light' of the 1st real TV broadcast. With a lot less Wattage than that.

And of course, ALL so called 'civilizations' have/do go through one hell of an embarrassing
'leaning-curve' of 'humanity', before being 'judged' by us more contemporary beings..   :-+

To quote the late, great, Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers)...

Humans are not proud of their ancestors, and rarely invite them round to dinner.

Do you mean like an 'Artist' painter, or like a 'House-Painter' ???
(OK, I could have 'googled' it, but didn't  :D )

Probably his only GOOD involvement in 'humanity', was the promotion of the 'Volkswagen'.
(Meaning the 'Peoples-Car'). With the 'idea' that everyone could afford a simple budget car.
Of course the 'company' now, has evolved WAAY beyond that original conception.  :)

Ermmm.... To keep my 'comment' even remotely on 'topic' hahaha....
Here's a 'pic' of a Modern (not) car, with the 'latest' in portable Radio !!!!!!   8)

That's a crazy amount of power. Incredible the engineering that goes into that. Just the antennas alone. I presume those are very precisely setup so they can beam form to the regions they want.

Now the question is, will this fit in my 14 foot aluminium boat?  Gonna start a pirate radio station. :P

It won't be embarrassing if the aliens are Klingons.  :P

Do people still listen to short wave broadcasts?

Not many methinks. I was into it as a kid in the '70s when it was 'Big Time'. Many countries had their own voices. Now, with the internet, nobody cares anymore. My 'neighbors' in their 30s don't even know what 'shortwave' is.

Quote marks tribute to GlennSprigg.

I bought a shortwave/am/fm radio, sometimes I play around with it to see what I pickup.  Not aware of any stations here in Canada but I can actually pickup some from the states sometimes.  Same with AM.  For AM I usually pickup more in like Toronto area, which is still like a good 800km south.

That's an interesting thought, although I'm not sure why it would even matter. To an alien race Hitler would just be another human, they would have no context of who he was or what he did soon after. At the time of the olympics he wasn't really doing anything wrong, at least in terms of what was visible to the outside world. On top of that he will have been dead for a very long time and it is not entirely unlikely that someone else will take the trophy for most evil person on Earth by then.

To Alex, haha!!  thanks man.  :P ^-^
To mc172,  Yea, pretty much I guess !!  :)  (no need to shoot me though....). I have my reasons.
I've explained all this in the past, whereby I think there is a difference between a few generally concise
sentences used in a Forum such as this, as opposed to how one should properly write a book !
Especially in a generally technical forum where people are quickly referencing/seeing key words. At times
I will use, bold, or italics, depending on the content/context, or, (less intrusive, I think,) 'single quotes'.
To me, on a 'Forum', it is only to highlight key 'words/names/places' during quick perusal by others.   :)
A LOT of people simply just KNOW me by now, and just think... "Ahh... that's just Glenn!" Have a good day !  ;D
