So simply making a hoax bomb is illegal now in 'Murica? I believe the 14-year-old never said "This is a bomb" or showed signs that this was a legitimate bomb threat, so I don't understand on what ground they are justified to arrest him?
And if making fake bombs is illegal now, then hang on to your hats, because then fake weapons would be illegal too, or not? And so would be shooting people with fake weapons, and suddenly paintball would be illegal, if we applied the same rule with no big stretch of the imagination.
I guess you have to be careful ordering one of those now on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Novelty-Defusable-Alarm-Clock-Bomb-like/dp/B00C587QUM/) :P

EDIT: There's already a thread about this 9th Grader Arrested in Houston for making ... a clock. (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/9th-grader-arrested-in-houston-for-making-a-clock/?topicseen)

Is it total paranoia or can it be that the school has no qualified science/ engineering teachers who might have been able to see sense.
Lets hope the child has not been put off building things for life.

Sorry should have spotted other thread.

I live about 20 minutes away and I have brought scarier things to school without being arrested. I had a battery pack (3 lithium ion cells in parallel) inside of a sh*t ton of electrical tape. many people have asked me about it, all of which being students. never was I asked by a teacher or the school police officer about it although they have seen it. Scary to think that they will react to a clock and not something that looks like it could be an actual bomb. Maybe it's just because i'm white.
