DC555, a discrete 555
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:17:38 am »
Do you think the humble 555 timer is too compact or too accurate? Do you find the pin spacing of a DIP 555 to be just too small for your needs? Or have you wished that you could lift the hood off and look inside?
Enter the DC555, a discrete version of the age-old chip. It's yours for only 1500 yen, about US$16.

I think Dave should buy this kit and compare it to the real deal in various circuits.

Whoa! How the hell did Dave know that Bob is my uncle? Amazing!

I think they should add these at their ad :

- Much-much higher source/sink current capability than your ancestor's 555.
- Should you blew up the output transistors, you could easily replace it with beefier one with lower Vce sat version rather than have to replace the whole IC. Think green.  ;D
- Improve accuracy ? No big deal, just replace the 3 voltage divider resistors with higher precision & lower temp co version, you will have an "elite" version of 555.

Next up... a 555 timer out of vacuum tubes.
Better clear off the kitchen table to make room.

Why not use these?
The difficult we do today; the impossible takes a little longer.
