18swg wires on the 12VHPWR cable enough?
« on: February 07, 2024, 01:00:22 am »
Hello! I just got a new Thermaltake Tough power pf3 850W power supply. I found out that all the cables bundled is made of 18swg wires. For 12vhpwr which should support power spikes up to 850 or even 1000W, I'm not sure it would be enough. What do you guys think?

Afaik, it's 12 pin. 6 wires do +12V and the other 6 is COM.

I believe for 12VHPWR the high current wires need to be awg16.  The sense wires can be thinner.

The issue is usually the contact resistance where the pin is crimped to the wire.  The largest wire size for a given pin is needed to get the lowest contact resistance and the highest per pin current rating.

good idea its not uncommon to read about roasted connectors with shady PSU choices.
