its really odd watching daves videos on youtube in 1911 mode

DIY analog oscilloscope
DIY digital oscilloscope display (I'm going to make one out of an FPGA kit).
(as was suggested) try to find an eager taker who needs a monitor.
harvest all the nice bits (flyback, HV mosfets, big diodes, so on), put it all back together and recycle it at a proper hazardous waste site.
