1Ghz Keysight Pro-Gaming Oscilloscope with Liquid Cooling

MK14:
The whole concept is ridiculous, in (my opinion) a VERY bad way, technically speaking.

Test equipment (in some environments), is used to carefully take accurate readings, which can be used to make very important manufacturing/design decisions. Incorrect results can (in some cases), lead to production failures (mistakes), which can cost businesses fortunes, or even badly damage the companies image.
It might even affect the safety of devices, that are put into production.

So, opening up a (presumably/generally) calibrated test instrument, and making internal modifications. Which could affect the reliability/accuracy/warranty and even safety of any measurements made with the equipment. Is a real big NO NO.

Their marketing department, may think it is an obvious 'joke', but (at least to me), it looks ridiculous.

I can't see how Keysight, expect to be taken seriously as a decent/quality maker of quality/reliable/accurate test equipment, if they make stunts like this.

tl;dr
I'm now seriously worried that the senior technical people at Keysight, don't have the necessary management influence, to produce reliable instruments, if things like that video, get past marketing.   :palm:

I.e. If someone gave me hundreds of millions of dollars, to buy an aircraft, would I choose Boeing, as the suppler of the aircraft ?

A brand can be damaged, by poor management.

That's, ermm, yeah, I'll just be over in that corner weeping gently.

I'm trying to save up the cash for a reasonable Siglent and he gets to wreck $18K of Keysight, heartbreaking.

The guitar thing, from some passing involvement with a few bands and a rather well connected drummer who was married to a colleague*, it's extremely rare that a guitarist will smash up something of value (they do generally actually care about the instruments), they usually smash up the Owon of guitars rather than the Keysight and there's often some poor put upon guitar tech who's tasked with gluing even the cheap ones back together so they can be 'played' and then smashed up again at the next gig.

*It's quite something to pop into a tiny, local drum shop to drop off repaired PA gear to find yourself drinking tea and chatting with people you've seen on the front cover of Kerrang or similar publications.

I am horrified.

I have just PMed Daniel Bogdanoff, pointing at this thread and asking for his PoV.

Nominal Animal:
Oookay.  :palm:

Because of this, I shall not be participating in Keysight University Live this year.  I have a strict bullshit filter, and this thing just clogged it.
(Not that I would ever win anything, nor is me not participating a negative for Keysight, because I have zero effect on anyone acquiring Keysight products.)
rsjsouza:
This is a hit piece like any other over-exaggerated news article out there.

Although I think that committing a 1GHz oscilloscope is extremely wasteful and a slap in the face over many folks that would like to have a simple Owon, it is cheap change for Keysight to throw this out there and try to cater to a broader (younger?) audience that is fully on board with computer mods, LEDs, liquid cooling and 3D Printers. Just check the likes/dislikes ratio on the video and several praising comments - the horrified souls are the absolute minority.

The caveat: whoever is making the decisions today and will bring the $$$ most probably don't care/didn't watch/is not swayed by this stunt.

Did you watch the video? Keysight is fully onboard with that. For them it is cheap change to try something new.

(edit) And no, before you start throwing tomatoes, I did not appreciate the stunt but maybe I am very jaded with similar things done in the past to completely unrelated/disconnected initiatives.
