My favorite kinds of pizza have pineapple on them. I'm not sure why some people find that so vile, or care. Lots of Polynesian foods combine pineapple with meat too.
Its not just Polynesian cuisine. Over much of East Asia pineapple is a common ingredient in meals. Its a classic way to soften tough meat, especially pork. An enzyme in pineapple will turn meat to mush given long enough. Is it that softening of the meat that some people dislike?

I say, if people eat surströmming, hákarl, smalahove, and mämmi, they can let others eat their pizza with pineapple toppings at peace, too.  :P

Probably the taste. I like pineapple both as fruit or part of a warm meal.

That's why there are so many pizza variants out there, everybody has a diffeent taste.
But pineapple pizza remains an abomination.

My favorite kinds of pizza have pineapple on them. I'm not sure why some people find that so vile, or care. Lots of Polynesian foods combine pineapple with meat too.

I'm completely ambivalent to pineapple on pizza, raises no emotional response with me but I also fail to understand why people get so damned upset when somebody publishes their 'take' on a classic dish.

Pineapple goes *great* with all sorts of pork/pig meat, it doesn't seem a terrible combination to put it on a pizza but by the same token I can't remember the last time I ate pizza with pineapple.

I reckon it's some sort of manufactured outrage, might even be traceable back to a marketing campaign somewhere.

I'm not sure the pineapple on pizza analogy is accurate. This is more like putting rat poison on a perfectly good pizza and being surprised that hungry people don't find that entertaining.

Oookay.  :palm:

Because of this, I shall not be participating in Keysight University Live this year.  I have a strict bullshit filter, and this thing just clogged it.
(Not that I would ever win anything, nor is me not participating a negative for Keysight, because I have zero effect on anyone acquiring Keysight products.)

Yeah, don't participate in a free event where you get a chance to win huge prizes for barely any effort, that will show Keysight.  :-DD :-DD :-DD :-DD

Guys stop being salty, it's not like you're losing something because a guy wanted to have some fun.
Also "how can he be so crude with an 18k dollar scope"? Answer: he didn't know it was an 18k dollar scope.
The guy only just became big recently and probably never had any sponsor bigger than nord-shadow-VPN-legends or whatever, he probably didn't expect anyone to send him a scope that's worth any more than 500 bucks.

I watched the video, i liked it. The guy produces good content in general.

TBH mods can just close this thread already, it's just people arguing and being upset over what someone else did with what they own (because they became successful through their own effort). What a travesty!  :scared:

Yeah, because having any principles to live by is so outdated.  Just get the free stuff, stop being salty, and let the world rot around you in peace.

Giving away a scope to be modded was a bold move, something I haven't seen any manufacturer do before.  Big kudos to Daniel for that.  But choosing to blingify it with Raspberry Pi RGB lights, that's the salty bit; it hurt to see such a good tool converted to a blinkenlights toy.

If anything, I'm hoping Daniel Bogdanoff will consider other modding projects in the future, but this time in a way that makes the scope even more useful.  (I've already listed those.)  It does not matter if it is a bit obscure use case, because people like the build videos, and none of the manufacturers have yet donated devices to be modded – other than now Keysight: if anything, they seem to be actively against anything like that.  And scientists and engineers love their tools: seeing how one can be modified effectively is interesting.

Principles or lack thereof? How does some guy from the internet hurt you so bad?

Personally i don't see how something like this would happen to a scope ever again neither do i let it "rot" the world around me.  :-//

If Keysight want exposure for their scopes, they should send one to Kardashians. A lot more audience than with some random RGB punk.

Principles or lack thereof?
"The world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than from those who actually commit it."
 - Albert Einstein, 1953

What you do or tolerate, is up to you and your own conscience.  But when you ridicule others for having principles and following their own conscience, you are evil.

I think Albert Einstein didn't aim this particular comment at molesting one physical object which -in the grand scheme of things- doesn't really matter. If you really cared for a better world you should not have used this quote in the context of this thread. Like killing millions of people on an industrial scale is equal to modding a scope with a few LEDs.

If you are homeless or starving, order a Hawaiian pizza for take-out just before closing time, then pick the warm pizza from the dumpster after they close.

About ten years ago something happened in the Tekscopes group that caused it to split into two groups and one of the outcomes was someone painted a 500 series scopes in white with red flames.
Or that might have been the liquor. I can't find any pictures of the scope.

You think wrong, then.  Einstein's point was that it is exactly the small things that humans do that build the world, that they matter more than the mass atrocities we all know.  That we need to focus on the things we ourselves can do, instead of "the grand scheme of things", to make the world a better place.

I have principles.  I abide by them. I do not exploit others.  I do not tolerate evil.  By this way, I try to avoid putting the world in greater peril.

If it's possible to place orders and only pay for them when picking up or on delivery, wouldn't that make it all too easy to DoS them by spamming orders without accepting them?

A large chain pizza franchise would likely have your phone number or email when you ordered and blacklist you. (or sell your details to the mob!)

Italians can be fussy about their food. When someone buggers their food, changing it, so it no longer suits their taste, they see it as a kind of cultural appropriation!

It's all a load of bollocks. Anyone should be able to incorperate other cultural elements into their food, dress, music etc. without being persecuted. If someone likes pineapple pizza, they should be allowed to enjoy it. If someone else doesn't like it, no one is forcing them to eat it!.

If someone likes pineapple pizza, they should be allowed to enjoy it.
Please feel free to enjoy whatever suits you (I know you don't need my or anyone else's permissions!).

And in the same way, please allow me to state that:
The combination of sweet + slightly acidic taste of the pineapple with the tomato and mozzarella makes it disgusting*.

Of course, this is just my opinion:
I won't stop anyone from putting pineapple on top of a good pizza and then eating it.
I might try to dissuade them though, as I would do if someone came to me with a nice 18 k$ scope, a Dremel and a bunch of RGB LEDs.
In both cases I would remain convinced of their bad taste.

But it's true, we Italians are quite protective of our food heritage.
Put parmigiano on a fish based pasta, and you'll learn some 'interesting' words, at the same time some regional fish recipes use cheese, e.g. Orate alla pugliese (pecorino romano, even stronger than parmigiano). :-//

* In general I like mixing sweet, sour and other contrasting tastes. E.g. I'm a fan of Lingua in dolcefforte. (Sweet and strong tongue: ox tongue cooked with dark chocolate and vinegar). I'll try anything that's considered edible, and I like mostly everything.

Maybe this thread needs to be moved to the Cooking section of the forum.

Also, why is there a cooking section on an electronics forum? That's about as irrelevant and off-topic as you can get.

Ah, big discussion on the supporters lounge. I didn't follow, but it ended up being created in the... Off-topic board.

I also dont like the scope-modding, but the butthurtness-scale in this thread is off the charts.  :-BROKE

There use to be "Will It Blend", type of youtube videos. He once did the latest (at the time) iPhone, and got a huge number of dislikes/negatives for the video. Presumably by Apple Fan iPhone addicts/lovers, who were horrified at destroying such a thing of beauty (in their eyes).

So, taking an $18,000 quality Oscilloscope, which some of us would love to own. Then heavily modifying it, in such a way, that it is somewhat damaged (or perceived to be damaged). Can cause 'butthurt', in some of us.
