Minecraft is a sandbox game where you mine and harvest resources make structures etc. One of the items in game is red-stone which you can use to control certain objects in game such as minecarts, torches, doors etc. It didn't take long for people to discover a trick that allows you to create basic logic gates AND, NOT, OR. Then someone decided to build an ALU.

this game is worse than bad television. Seems like a massive brain drain. So much time spend ... rearranging blocks? Cripes..

Don't knock it based on appearances. It seems plain at first, but it's really quite fun once you play around with it for a bit.

I haven't touched it in over a month. There is the first bit of addiction, but then your self control kicks in.

If you love Minecraft but don't want to get addicted, watch the Yogscast series. It is just a couple of lads playing around at first, but then you realise people (their mates) have been building stuff on their server. The story that unfolds is better than any soap opera!

It reminds me of the first version of quake.

Sorry, I watched the first couple of minutes of the video and my eyes glazed over.
