A Kindle travel the Us with USPS...

Hey, that Kindle already travelled something like 10000 miles (16000 km) just bouncing between the west coast and the east coast.

Maybe giving Amazon a call would put it out of its misery. Before it finally ends up here http://goo.gl/maps/x59vD

Not sure why it bounced from coast to coast, but ISC is the International Sorting Center.  There are huge numbers of planes this season because of the holidays.  I got a package I ordered from California and it arrived in the East coast in my door, overnight, by USPS, free super saver shipping.  I bought 2 more items and same thing, overnight.  Its amazing.  My guess is your package is looking for a plane heading for Norway, and it could be the one in CA  .

FWIW flights are more frequent between the coasts, and less from elsewhere in the USA.  If I order something from Colorado or Illinois, it can take a week to get to me versus 2-3 days from California.  As you track where the package goes, it does bounce around until it tries to reach CA or NYC, for the main haul to me through my cities' hub.

If you are interested in logistics, how mail is delivered is impressive.  While most people think Fedex or UPS in the US beat the USPS easily, they don' t know that USPS processes 23+ million mail pieces, letters packages etc., per hour, that's more than Fedex and UPS combined per day.

A reason the USPS system compared to private carriers seem less agile and inefficient is it does more volume than the privates.  USPS also has low economy rates that the privates don't [like parcel post, or book rate], yet it still delivers for the same price whether its next city or in the Marianas Islands.

USPS also delivers were Fedex and UPS etc., do not, they cross contract with each other and buy services, USPS buys air space on Fedex, volume trucking with UPS etc., while the privates contract delivery to remote locations with USPS.  The USPS tracking number could go haywire, if your package is part of those cross connections to the private systems.

A year ago I ordered my Kindle 3G Keyboard about a week before christmas, and it got to Czech Republic in about a week including customs and 1 day delay because of something... I remember it took few days to get it from the US to a plane heading to Europe, but then it was really fast. All handled by UPS, so I don't know if it will make any difference if delivered by USPS or its contractor in your country.

I once had a package come from china, arrive in my city (Los Angeles) in just a few days, which needless to say made me quite happy, then it went all the way to Texas for some reason, and back, which took 3 more days.

BTW, I don't know if the Kindles are pre-activated. If they are someone in China now has a chance to buy a lot of books on your account. You should make sure you get that Kindle deactivated.

It  looks fishy. But the problem with this tracking information is they contain no meaningful timezone information.

It certainly looks that way. The posten.no link is clear.  This is a similar problem mentioned in USPS shipments when they track packages that enter other systems; I wonder if the package was actually delivered by the Fedex fleet and then transferred to the postal system of your country.  Just thoughts.

It may be a simple solution to the CHINA PEOPLES REP. Maybe  China do see Norway as their republic as ex. Taiwan...

I got a full refund from fedex on shipping once; Ordered a lens from the US, was pricey, but wanted it quick so I paid $200 for express shipping, it spent 3 weeks flying around the world before I finally got it.

Seems like even if you send a package NEXT DOOR, the way the system is set up is to take it all the way up the hierarchy to some central HUB and then from there all the way back down the hierarchy to the house next door.

It sounds crazy but due to travel routes, number of planes and drivers and route paths, it may be easier to have it that way than someone actually route it across the street specifically for your package.

Would be interesting to turn on a GPS logger and ship it, then see the path it took!!!

Yes, it does this way.  When Fedex was new and still called Federal Express, the method you mention below sounds so inefficient but they've proved it works best.  I sent a package from one part of a city to another overnight; it was cheaper than sending it via bicycle courier; on the tracking label I watch it go to Memphis first before going cross town.

Its good to know thepackage arrived for the OP's original post.
