Planes can be hacked with a phone?
« on: April 12, 2013, 01:49:42 pm »
apparently air planes can be hacked with a phone so there is no longer any need to smugle explosives on board just walk on with a phone and take over. Well if this report is to be believed.

I don't know where to start with this! Basically, in reality, it is simply not possible. The media have taken this out of context completely as always.

Looks like that article was posted about 11 days too late... :-DD
I didn't take it apart.
I turned it on.

The only stupid question is, well, most of them...

Save a fuse...Blow an electrician.

Read the actual article

It's a proof of concept running in a virtual environment.  That does not mean the flaws are not present.  Nobody outside the security community thought Stuxnet was possible either.

A: Plane flight control systems wouldnt be connected in software to a radio of any kind.  Unless you change the firmware of virtually every computer in the plane.  Which is impossible.  The plane might not even have the hardware to do it.

B: Plane radios do not operate at 900 MHz like GSM.

C: The interface isn't fast enough to get past encrypion, even if the functionality does exist.
