DDR pad hack
« on: March 01, 2012, 03:33:49 am »
Hi guys,

I came up with an idea I thought would be fun to try out.  I want to use one of those dance pads for games like world of warcraft, starwars, or league of legends.  This is what I picked up:

http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Dance-Pad-Mat-PC/dp/B002LIL42C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330572573&sr=8-1

I plugged the double usb into my pc and it finds it, unfortunaly I can't tell if I'm getting any kind of output.  I downloaded a game called stepmania to see if I could get a response but had no luck.  Does anyone know a way I could get these pad buttons to toggle keystrokes of my choice?

That doesn't look like a standard DDR pad.  There is usually just 4 arrows.  Front Back Left Right.  That is it.

Did you see this page regarding stepmania?:

http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/Configure_Keyboard_and_Dance_Pads

I don't know anything about these things but it sounds like it will just like a joystick (or two?) so far as the PC is concerned.

So far as making it toggle keystrokes, I don't know.  Someone out there has probably made some kind of hack to do that.

What you want is Joy2Key. For more advanced stuff, check out AutoHotKey.
